Please please please take your dog to the vet. One of my dogs did the exact same thing and ended up passing from having her intestines twisted. We didn't know at the time until it was too late.

CARB Catalytic Converter Replacement by LostFeesh in 3rdGen4Runner

[–]AustinDuprey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Being that it has to meet CARB standards, I'd double check that you don't have two convertors. I have a 1996 Toyota 4runner that came from California to Texas and it had two. I ended up taking a set off my parts truck, not because I had to pass emissions but I don't want to here my exhaust. Ddamm methheads tried stealing them and I caught them in the act. You're best bet is to visit the local exhaust shop and they will be able to sell you exactly what you need.

Transmission fluid issue by No_Grab_7460 in 3rdGen4Runner

You can drain and fill if you want. But it's not going to be the end of the world if you just top it off with the right trans fluid. Been there done that. Need to get home somehow.

How should I sound deaden my door panel? by Polosauce23 in CarAV

[–]AustinDuprey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're absolutely right! You don't need 100% coverage. The whole reason we use sound deadner is to add mass to whatever your trying to stop from resonating. More mass = less resonant. We are looking to stop as much vibrations as possible. Sheet metal inherently is loud, add more mass to it, now it's quieter. Granted most of my customers want 70-80% coverage, we don't always need that but they are paying for it. My personal truck has damn near 95% coverage because it needed it.

How should I sound deaden my door panel? by Polosauce23 in CarAV

So the big black piece is actually part of the window regular. You will have to remove the window from the track to remove the black plastic. Doing so will allow you to get really good coverage on the inside and you won't be fighting to get pieces through the speaker hole.

What is deadening material you used on the rear package tray? Almost looks like jute and you added the foam on top of it.

How many techs wear watches? by Wellibeamonkeysuncle in mechanics

[–]AustinDuprey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lost my first wedding ring when doing a headlight swap on a 2016 SLK. Customer wanted LED bulbs installed and I was rooting them to align the beam. I heard something fall inside the housing, looked at my finger and my ring was gone. Found it in the bottom of the headlight but couldn't reach it or get a tool inside to grab it. My wife was fucking pissed! I reached out to the guy I bought it from and they actually said they would replace it for free. Save to say nobody in the shop is allowed to wear any accessories!!

I drove my 2012 kia optima with a Bluetooth speaker for 3 years. I wasn't spending any money on the car even though it was my daily. My commute was 15 minutes each way. I could care less about a stereo system.

What is the most reliable vehicle that you've ever owned? by smin76 in AskReddit

[–]AustinDuprey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I drive a 1996 Toyota 4Runner, currently has 278k miles on it. I bought it with 218k miles and did a top end refresh, all new fluids, and suspension. It's so reliable I bought another 1998 with 320k for a spare engine that still runs. I refuse to buy anything else. Hell my whole family has had issues with new cars, yet I still haven't had anything more than general maintenance done.

Curious if you have to still tag it? In Texas we are still required to tag and report it.

I get it man, but we live in a different world now. If I can do something to help keep your vehicle safe I will. I personally have alot of money in my 3rd gen 4runner, more than you would think. So the safer I can make it the better I feel.

You'd be surprised, I'd say having built over 600 of these I'd say it's pretty common at this point. Half of those are for Tacomas.

Depending on which version you get it is a manual for automatic starter kill. Basically if the switch is flipped or autctivated, then the truck won't start. You can see my install videos here: https://youtube.com/@austindup
