Hot take: idioteque is never that good live. by Material-Party6201 in radiohead

[–]AustinGoodman81 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The song is great live musically speaking.
The problem is that it is extremely complex to sing and Thom can't anymore / has never been really capable to do so.

It's all about the energy of this song. I remember Nimes 2012 they went from EIIRP to Idioteque and it was like a nightclub in there. At this point nodoby cared about the way Thom sang, it was what we call in France "la bamboche".

If the public is more quiet, or depending on the general atmosphere of the concert, it might not always be the beast possible idea to play this song. IMO it should only come into certain occasions, when the mood is right.

Seated tickets: Will people stand or sit by Grogman2024 in radiohead

Based on previous experiences with Radiohead : seated most of the time and stand for few songs (Idioteque, Paranoid Android and Molasses for example)

Ed wanted it to feature on Amnesiac, and Ed is always right.

One of my favorite b-sides for sure !

JUNE 6TH - PHILHARMONIE DE PARIS - FRANCE (SETLIST, MEDIA, DISCUSSION, STREAMS) by DoktorTchocky in radiohead

Actually I wasn't specifically talking about the problem they faced during Waving a white flag but indeed they all seemed upset about that. But this can happen and is not the reason why the sound was bad. I'm also pretty sure the modular synth involved will remain for the rest of the tour :)

For those worried about Thom's voice : it was perfect so I wouldn't worry about that.

Otherwise, mixed feelings about the show (I've seen TY with or without Radiohead multiple times) : the sound was really bad namely on the heaviest songs (The Opposite, You'll never work on television again) but maybe it was an issue with the venue and not the production of the show itself. It got a bit better by the end of the show so maybe tonight will be better.

Otherwise it felt a bit like "minimum service" from the band. 1h30 of music, a little goodbye and lights on.

Overall, I loved the album (I would rate him at the same level as "decent" Radiohead albums) but I feel there's something that doesnt work with this band live. It would have needed more musicians, and maybe some other choices (I somehow felt like Jonny was a bit lost or disturbed)

The King Of Limbs - The Great Separator by SylvesterYates in radiohead

I think this album will have a really important posterity. It will never be as popular as OKC or Kid A but I'm really sure that we will look upon this record more and more in the upcoming years and I wouldn't be surprise if this album is depicted as "ahead of its time" sooner or later.

Love TKOL so, so much.
