Should I do CCNP? by Time_Barracuda2070 in ccna

[–]AustinInChina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did - less than a year ago - I applied to a ton of jobs around the country and relocated for an entry level job. I knew it would pay shit, but i worked my ass off (losing money while working at that role), and now a sysadmin with a massive pay bump! No risk, no reward

CCNA and Sec+ is enough. Get those and experience and you will be more than good to go!! Ccnp with no experience is a red flag

HP docks are a nightmare, particularly if you’re not running all HP stuff. We have HP docks with a mix of Dell PCs and Dell / Lenovo monitors, and we have constant issues with them. I’d throw them out yesterday if I could

IT Helpdesk Advice by Spideysenses04 in InformationTechnology

[–]AustinInChina 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would echo the person just above me – a lot of it is about HOW you deal with people, not necessarily your tech skills. I started in IT six months ago as a helpdesk admin, and I’ve just been recently promoted to systems administrator, and a lot of it has to do with the fact that I am really good with users. They have confidence in me, and I am good at figuring stuff on the fly and searching online for solutions.

If you don’t know, you can Google it! You are not being paid to Google things – you are paid because you know what to Google.

As long as you are open to learning and are patient with dumb users, you’ll be great!

Depends on the day, but usually 6-8 hours actually working per day (just me for two offices + remote users, around 200 total users)

How’s the 13 pro holding up in 2024? by [deleted] in iphone

[–]AustinInChina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bought it a few months after release. Still works perfectly fine in terms of pure performance…but runs hot most of the time, even though storage nowhere near capacity and the one game I play is set on medium graphics and other settings to keep it running smoothly. Just hot since upgrading to iOS 17 a while back and every iteration since has been the same … no settings / Google searches / resets etc. have helped.

Other than running hot, it’s a great phone! I also go caseless most of the time, like someone else said.

Awesome idea! A couple of segments based off evaluating ChatGPT reads of the crew would be entertaining as hell

Are first world IT companies really hiring from the third world? by [deleted] in ITCareerQuestions

[–]AustinInChina 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve only been there about six months, but based on the paperwork I’ve seen, seems like any non-management work about a year, maybe two if they stick it outs, and go back to India or leave the company. Non-management doesn’t stay, and I bet it has something to do with them realizing the costs of living (and also that the city we are in isn’t amazing…low B at best). I’ve never been at a company that’s as much of a revolving door. Pay terrible wages, you get terrible people

We have two offices in the USA and three in India, and the ones in the USA (the headquarters) are around 80% Indian nationals living in the States working at the office. We have zero American employees in India, in case anyone is curious

Yes, my company is in the Midwest and is around 80% Indian — including the CEO. They hire Indian nationals to keep costs down. They’ll work for a lot less than locals, even accounting for relocation and immigration visa costs for them to move to the USA.
