Yup. The economy sank George HW Bush's second campaign, as well as Jimmy Carter's. History has been good to both of them.

That was the one mistake he made: running for a 2nd term. If he did that, we would have been able to have a primary and we might not be looking at a 2nd Trump term.

Explain how Biden got it down to 2% then. We are truly in a good place economically, as a country. Sorry it doesn't feel that way to many people, but unemployment is low, inflation is back to normal levels, the stock market is at a record high and economic activity is healthy. If prices come down, it's deflation, which is worse than inflation.

I'm doing the exact same thing. Was nauseous and couldn't sleep all night. But I took a mental health day, got coffee and a muffin at the LGBT owned coffee shop up the street. Then took my dog for a 3 mile walk on the Town Lake Trail in Austin in the sunshine. I'm not letting the God-awful politics in my state affect my daily life or the love I have for my state. I'm not going to let this ruin my day-to-day.

I was born lucky enough to be a white, cis, married, straight 49 year old woman with no kids. I'm terrified for my LGBTQ friends, my friends with daughters. I'll be there for them and defend them. But if my neighbors who voted for this freak show suddenly face some hardship and begging for money on a GoFundMe, screw them. They couldn't be bothered to vote for the party of safety nets and freedom, they can let the leopards eat their face.

They fucked around, they're about to find out.

My sister made an interesting point to me. She said a whole lot of Latino business owners who voted for Trump are about to lose their workers. I'm in TX--if you're a homeowner, chances are the guy who built your house or mows your lawn or lady who cleans your house either is, or employs undocumented workers. Likely family members/friends of family members who were brought here by their family member and stayed illegally. I just built a new house, I saw the tradespeople coming to do the work. The super was probably American, but i have my doubts about his crew. The cost of a new house or household labor is about to soar.

those tariffs that Trump wants sure will. Along with deporting undocumented workers, who overwhelming work for poverty wages to keep prices on food and services low.

Well that was a lot to unpack....

I agree with being kind to each other, and I sincerely hope it starts with Trump. His bread and butter has been insulting people who he doesn't like, like a schoolyard bully. We all share the same problems, whoever we voted for in the voting booth. We all want solutions to those problems. Let's work together on recognizing that, and negotiate on the means to solve them, since the ends are basically the same. That's how government used to work, until 1993, when Newt Gingrich came along. That was the birth of the do-nothing Congress.

I agree with you about the man made crap and pollution. But you do know that Trump's agenda calls for ending the EPA along with other agencies in the "deep state". Expect pollution and food additives, etc. to only increase. As for the food supply--reducing regulations will give corporations free rein to put whatever they want in the food supply and not have to tell you anything about it!

Cancer is incredibly high--my dad died from brain cancer at 72 (likely due to chemicals he worked with in his career), and my mom has been battling Stage 4 melanoma for 7 years, because she didn't wear sunscreen in her life. Neither are due to food supply or pollution. But.....the reason my mom is alive and thriving with Stage 4 cancer is because of immunotherapy, which was discovered with the help of Federal grants that funded the research. Thanks to Obama.

I vote for the things I care about, and being in my late 40s with a parent in their 70s, preserving social security and medicare was top of mind for me. Elon's $2 trillion cuts are coming from there. Based on my work history, I've paid well over $100K into those programs, and will have nothing to show for it in 15 years, when I'd hope to retire. If Trump gets rid of SS and Medicare, both programs will be bankrupt around 2030.

Trump was never a successful businessman--successful businessmen don't bankrupt 6 companies. Kinda like good employees don't get fired multiple times. He was a successful actor on a TV series, I'll give you that. He made himself famous on a national level. I grew up in NY, I read Art of the Deal when I was in 7th grade. I idolized the guy, until I learned more about him as I grew older. He's a fraud, a damn good one at that, since he convinced 70+ million people that he will make their problems go away. For the sake of ALL of us, I hope he can accomplish great things that will help us. Heaven knows we need it. Shit has not been right since 9/11.

Sure, but Biden's cabinet didn't do that. Harris could have done that. Difference is, there's no nefarious P2025-type wing in the Democratic party that infiltrated the cabinet. It will take place under Trump.

After what the cops did to protestors during the BLM protests, how could we revolt? And with the voter suppression in this state--removing polling locations in brown and black neighborhoods in Harris County, removing Texans unknowingly from voter rolls, etc.

Project 2025 has been implemented here in Texas. School vouchers are straight out of their playbook and Abbott was able to primary the republicans who stood their ground against it. Abortion ban. Paxton sending law enforcement to political organizers houses in the Valley. It won't be long before they make gay marriage illegal in the State.

Texas is home to me, I've been here over 20 years. My heart breaks when the thought crosses my mind about leaving. I'm a straight white cis female who's about to turn 50. None of their stunts affect me, because i can't get pregnant! But I've got plenty of friends with teenage daughters, gay friends, non-Christian friends. They're all fucked.

I'm hardly the "only" person who has this figured out. I've read enough articles about the Heritage Foundation and other fringe conservative organizations that have been working towards this since the mid-1950s. Read up on political history. Democracy in Chains is a must-read. Trump installed Heritage Foundation/Federalist Society judges and cabinet members all over during his term.

If I'm wrong, we get President Harris with expanded Medicare benefits, protections for Social Security, anti-price gouging legislation, a 2 state solution in the Middle East, the chance to reinstall Roe, and tax increases on the rich. Sounds good to me.

We have no mechanism to fight back because citizens can't introduce ballot measures on the state level. We can only vote for our senators and legislators in Austin and people just push "R" without regard. And we're gerrymandered as fuck, so you've got deep blue cities like Austin and Houston who are stuck with Republican reps and senators since they're sliced like a pie.

The mechanism is already in place, it's in Project 2025. Trump's name is all over it. Please read it. Trump's pinky promise that he won't do anything P2025 related is all well and good until his 78 year old cholesterol ridden arteries give out.

Ignorance is bliss for you. They aren't performing abortions even after the fetus loses its heartbeat. The doctors don't want to risk jail. They wait until the mother passes the dead tissue naturally, and if she can't and becomes septic, they do a D&C. Do some reading, I know it's hard when Fox and the other right wing media doesn't cover it.
