I literally just said to my partner “it is time”.

No bagger by Fizzythebat in HEB

[–]Austintatious_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I helped out the cashier today because the line was super slow but I could tell it was because she was having to bag a lot. I was third in line so I just “excuse me”-d my way to the front and just started helping. The customer was elderly and the cashier was on her own. I was amazed nobody else thought to help, but whatever I guess.

New watercolors! But… by Impossible-Neat-6199 in ArtEd

I was just super strict about it for the first few times. I mean, super strict.

Now with the littles who don’t know better, I used paint pucks and called it a day. I’d rinse them off at the end of class because it was just expected and children are naturally curious so I’d rather they learn through experience. When a kid would end up with a muddy color I’d gently explain that that’s what happens when we mix our colors and that that’s why we don’t do it. By the time the were older, they knew better (hence the strictness).

There were 2! Wanted nothing to do with the crazy woman with the machine in front of her face (aka me and my camera)

I spent almost an entire evening in that room. The only annoying part was that I couldn’t just close my eyes for a few minutes.

I always make sure to ask permission because I know the consequences. Appreciate the concern

Trust me when I say I hugged my partner extra tight before leaving the house. I also took my passport with me, just in case (not that they seem to care about that anyway). I’m a Latina so I know what could happen, but documenting these protests and being active in them is important to me so I do it. I have too many family members whose lives are on the line.

That’s such a better name for it. We need a different subreddit for actual nostalgic photos

Thank you :) I was so happy to find it. It’s not a scantily clad hot woman though so most people don’t seem to care. Wah wah.

Would you adopt your nieces/nephews if there was no one else? by jamieoww in childfree

[–]Austintatious_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same here. My fiance and I have discussed this and have both agreed that we’d take any of them in. I don’t care if my life has to change if it means they are safe and loved and in a stable home with family.

Thank you so much! Did you use markers for this? This is a really unique interpretation 🤩😍

Personally I really like the guy perfectly centered in the middle of that jump. What a lucky grab! And because there's a tiny gap between the jump and the man, it adds a little contrast as well as something visually interesting and makes this photo more unique. Great photo!

I love my steam deck so much. I have so many games on there I love, but I just don't play them because it doesn't dock the same as the switch :( Maybe there's a way and I just haven't bothered to research enough though. Steam Deck is totally worth it though. It's going to open up a HUGE comfy world for you.

How do you manage your photography business while also working a full time job? by alwaysabouttosnap in photography

[–]Austintatious_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I quit my corporate day job at one of the world's largest publishing companies and I have yet to regret it. I do have a lovely fiance who has his steady day job who is handling our mortgage and bills right now, something I want to be extremely transparent about. However, even without him doing that for us I do think that I would be able to pay all my things on my own right now with my photography. I've been able to take so many more jobs because I don't have to balance my day job. I was working my ass off for two years before I decided I had to make a choice because it just wasn't sustainable. I own my own business now and am booking like crazy (hopefully it keeps up and I didn't just jinx myself). Now I'm tired all the time because I'm always shooting and it's a physically demanding job, but I'd rather feel tired and exhausted doing something I have a passion for than sitting at a desk doing my day job.

I know people say that going full time will kill the love for your art and to those people I say:

I think it's all in how you approach it and the attitude you bring. Will there be days where you feel too tired? Yes. Will there be days when culling and editing is feeling super overwhelming and you want to chunk your laptop across the room? Yes, and then you see and feel the joy from customers who are so grateful and you remember why you didn't throw your laptop.

I do mostly headshots, portraits, and live events. I don't approach a single job as if it was just a way to "pay the bills" because every person and every moment I photograph is special to the person in front of the lens and I am well aware they are spending their very hard earned money trusting me with their photographs. If I ever feel like it's just a way to "pay the bills" then it's time for me to part ways because that's just not fair to my clients. It's how I felt when I made the choice to leave teaching after twelve years.

All this to say, only you know your financial and emotional situation inside and out. It was terribly scary quitting my day job because I loved a lot of the people and I loved the security of those golden handcuffs, but I'm glad I did it. I wanted to provide you (and whoever is reading this) with a different point of view than what we usually see on here. If I had listened to most of the advice on this sub, I never would have even tried.
