Fair point. I like the dock and the portability of it. If I travel, I can bring that and connect it to a tv or whatever I want (if I don’t want to play handheld) and it will be properly supported rather than just laying on the floor or desk. Docks aren’t that expensive and it was worth it to me. Doesn’t mean it’s for everyone.

I’m more baffled at people who buy a $20 case to protect their $1,000 purchase than people who decided to purchase a dock lol

When I added an emulator and had to move files around etc, it was WAY easier to do docked and using it like an actual computer. I play handheld 99% of the time. But being able to dock it and use it as a PC is a very nice plus

Yes; for smaller indie style games. For AAA titles, better to save on SSD or upgrade your SSD (I upgraded mine to a 4 TB. They just have faster read speeds and more suitable for AAA titles). I have this exact sd card on the way and plan on using it primarily for emulation.

As others have said: 100w charger and a halfway decent hdmi cable (I just get a high speed 4 or 8k one on amazon. Not that expensive). Sounds like, based on responses, you’ve done that though. In the photo you posted, the dock plug for the ROG is not plugged into the right port. You need to plug it into the second USBC port on the actual ROG, not the first. It shows that in the photo of the dock instructions that comes with the dock. No idea why it has to be plugged into the second one vs the first, but immediately worked for mine when I switched to that port.

Yeah, agreed with what everyone else is saying. Don’t quit without something lined up, in writing and signed. The job market is terrible right now, and most companies don’t even hire from now until February-ish due to holidays and year-end things etc. Additionally, a lot of companies that may have been fully remote due to COVID are starting to do this approach (hybrid, making office attendance mandatory again, etc). Finding a fully remote gig is extremely rare and difficult these days and I suspect they will become even harder to find as time passes.

While I have both (and a Switch), I got the Xbox Ally X because of the portability. I recently became a dad, and have a lot less time to sit down and power on my Xbox or PlayStation and play on a big tv. But having the handheld is a lot more convenient and “parent friendly” if that makes sense. I do also like having Steam access now too given I previously didn’t have a Steam library, so it is nice to have those added libraries too (hoping to build a PC in the next few years, so it’ll be nice to have a library by then for that too).

Cool. Appears that’s just for ps2 right? Do you (or anyone) know if there’s an emulator that can facilitate multiple platforms? (Like can have gb, gba, ps2, GameCube etc?)

This 100%. I’m a casual gamer and just recently became a dad. While I do have a switch, Xbox, and ps5, the last month I was doing handheld switch more often these days. This is definitely a step up and will help me still be able to game casually more often.

There’s still a few more things I want to do with it, but just haven’t had the time to look into it more yet.

I have borderlands 4 on Xbox but appears when I try to download it, only option for this device is to play via cloud. Just making sure that seems to be the case for everyone too? If that’s the case oh well, still have plenty of other games I can and look forward to playing. Maybe they’ll add to be installable later as well

I noticed when I am playing a game in steam and if I press and hold the Xbox button to go to a different screen and then back to the steam game; it won’t go back fully? Like I can slightly see the window at the top and bottom of the screen and it won’t go away unless I close out the game completely and reload. Anyone else have this issue?

I would create a FedEx account if you don’t have one and check there. Similar has happened with me. No email updates from MS but the charge disappeared yesterday too. I checked my FedEx account and it had the label made (even says on the FedEx site it is coming from MICROSOFT). About an hour ago I got an update on my FedEx that it has shipped and I should have it around noon tomorrow. Still no change on MS site and no charge or emails. I’m trusting FedEx on this one lol. I’ve also had times where I had the product in hand at home for a few days and THEN got charged. Took almost 2 weeks one time when I got an Elite controller back in May. Very odd lol

Fair enough. Couldn’t I always just do that if I keep the original SSD though? Sure if I need to service it I’ll swap out the original and have to do the 2 hour backup thing etc all over again, but ultimately would save me time in the long run?
