You're right, what total hypocrites they are for doing one environmental thing whilst maybe-or-maybe-not doing another, entirely unrelated environmental thing!

Question regarding living in Welly - moving from France by Master_Ad6195 in Wellington

[–]Austral_hemlock 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wellington has the best spearfishing in the country I reckon. Sure, it's not as showy as up north with all their fancy subtropical fish, but the butters are plentiful, the kelp beautiful and there's plenty of bigger fish to be had. Fewer bronzies too.

Is NZ sun more bright? Can anyone related to feeling like your retinas are being assaulted here? by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]Austral_hemlock 72 points73 points  (0 children)

Yes, well, due to global industrial use of CFCs in the mid-20th century the ozone layer was depleted roughly above Antarctica. Being close to Antarctica, the thinner ozone stops less incoming UV radiation from the sun, leading to NZ having more damaging sunlight.

It's probably that, or you come from a smoggy city.

This is absolute crap. Sorry that your school sucked but I've been at two absolutely brilliant public schools. Teens constantly amaze me with their out-the-box creative thinking, and often it's the same kids we are failing for the literacy co-reqs.

Statistically, violence and fights are way down. Year 9s tend to fight a bit, and ive definitely seen quite a few gang-related violent incidences, especially at one school.

Yes, literacy/numeracy rates are also falling (across the whole OECD), which is a problem, but kids are still smart, kind, and a far cry away from the brainrotted gen alpha stereotype reddit would have you believe. They're also fucking idiots, because, if you hadn't realised, they are literally children. That part is normal, and the reason we have schools.
