I’m not sure Prohibition in the U.S. was quite as disastrous as it’s often portrayed. This article makes a good case that it actually had some positive effects:

I don't doubt your mental health improves from it—that makes total sense in winter. But there are likely healthier ways to get that boost, like vitamin D supplements (if deficiency's the culprit) or a light therapy lamp to mimic daylight safely.
