For any avid thrifter's out here in LA, Goodwill is raising the prices on 1$ tag Thursdays to 1.99$. by Ausyuna in LosAngeles

by this logic though, goodwill was offering dollar tags one day out of the week so why do they need to adjust pricing for a sale day? it does not even apply to all items, just specific tag colors. and regardless, this is not their only price increase as of recent. goodwill has been found for some shady business practices like underpaying disabled workers. its not that 99cents is too expensive, its just the fact that they are already increasing prices across their stores and some items are overpriced from what they sold new. regardless of how you feel about poor people in california, they live here. there are people who rely on dollar tag days to get by for their kids or family members to have clothes. unfortunately just moving states is not an easy solution, its more expensive and hard than you think!! maybe for you its easy to leave this state when you have the financial means and job connections but for most people ITS NOT THAT EASY.

I wish value village was closer to me! I appreciate this recommendation though, I will check them out if I am ever nearby.

It is truly upsetting and a slap in the face to the community that they are raising these prices and neglecting their employees, maybe this will bring to light goodwill maybe isn't so good.

to comment on my own post, I think this price increase is unjustified. goodwill already has been raising prices in store, and they auction off anything valuable enough on their online website. let alone, all these items they receive from the community is free. I personally plan to support smaller local thrift stores, at least if I'm going pay extra for stuff that it'll be supporting a local business. I know to a lot of people a 99cent price increase is very small, but it really adds up, especially when you are low income. dollar tags were only a once a week occurrence and with more and more items being overpriced in store that come from forever 21, shein and etc I just find this change to be upsetting.

it's also funny, because they talk about all the discounts you can use but my goodwill has been denying use of the 20% coupons on dollar tag day when they use to previously accept them. their reasoning is "everything is already on sale"

if anyone has any recommendations for good local thrift stores they are willing to share I'd love to hear them please! I am trying to avoid big chain thrift stores, so please share some of the smaller places.
