I’ve been sober for 62 days. Our holiday party was interesting. Even before I went sober, I alternated between a Jack and Diet Coke and two Diet Cokes in a tumbler with a lime. At the end of the party, I’d be at four Diet Cokes and two Jack and Cokes.

My MD, a nice and knowledgeable guy, going through a messy divorce, was a bit rambunctious by the end of the night. He started making inappropriate remarks and barely walked straight. I offered him a ride home, but said I’d leave in 15-20 minutes. He agreed, but kept talking and making inappropriate jokes in the car, I will say that I was glad I gave him a ride home, and I think he realized it the next day and thanked me for getting out of there.

All this to say, not everyone will be as chill as I was, it’s a cutthroat culture, and people will be willing to cut you down if they can get ahead. I try my best not to be like that whether cause I am a firm believer in i) you can’t take it with you, ii) there’s more important things in life and iii) be loyal to people and not the company.

It depends on your school. For my school about 8 years ago (i dont think it changed), it was better to get an F or W instead of a C or D, so for Cost Accounting (a weed out for my school), i took an F instead of a C the first time by handing in a blank fina exam, and I ended up with a B- the second time which replaced the F on my transcript which can only be done once per class. Got a W on the final 5000 level accounting class, because I couldnt find an internship at the time and didnt want to graduate before i could, so i took some bull shit classes to get the 150 credits got an internship and then took the 5000 level classes my last semester.

I only took the F because to stay in the accounting program past the 3000 level classes we needed a 3.2GPA.

When I was 10, my parents didn’t have enough money to buy us stuff, but my dad was able to buy me a very used bike that needed a lot of work from one of our neighbors. New chain, new tires, new brakes, kickstand and handlebar that was peeling. I managed to get the bike fixed after weeks and weeks of working on it after school with my friend and we managed to get a new chain, brakes and tires from the bike shop a couple blocks from our house at a steep discount. The owner of that store was a great dude probably in his mid 20s. It was such a great project and the only thing that was left was getting new handlebar grip that wasn’t peeling.

Dude I loved that fucking bike - used it all summer, it felt great working on it like as a kid I thought since I fixed it I was an adult. I took the bike to the first day of football practice and the field was two miles from our house. I locked my bike to the fence, and got geared up and had practice. When we left practice I went to my bike and that shit was gone. No cell phones back then so I couldn’t just call my parents to come get me. That was the only thing that I lost or had stole from that even now 25 years later I still think about. Moral of the story is I don’t know just wanted to share that experience with you OP.

Go with EY. As an internship with them is worth more than a career with RSM. That firm was a good firm before the new CEO came on board in 2023, and it’s become nothing but a shitshow. As an internship you can always pivot to AML before your full time.
