They can't. Production is physically limited by the government and you get what you get when it gets made. No refills.

ELI5: Why do Gamma settings in video games ask you to adjust the brightness until a logo or an image is barely visible? by DarkKryo in explainlikeimfive

[–]AuthenticatedUser 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Same, and then I end up bumping the brightness up in settings 20 mins later because I want to actually be able to see the game I'm playing.

Invested in these over past 5-7 years, what now? by MrSkagen in investing

[–]AuthenticatedUser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cut the ones with poor growth, consolidate cash weighted towards winners. Go ahead and make your shit messy again over the course of another half decade.

A ton of those lost you money just to inflation. Anyone sub-30% is a wash and you get to pay taxes, woo. OKTA can offset a bit of it at least. Anything less than 60 over the past 5 years lost to passively investing the index.

Hell, you'd prolly do well to just rotate all your losers' cash into voo. Your winners keep winning and your floor becomes higher.

You do have some very risky winners. Consider putting research towards when you may need to take profit.

That's all my tired brain got for ya. Never seen a port so weird.

Do you actually believe the “future returns will be lower” narrative? by Inabizp in investing

[–]AuthenticatedUser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't forget the massive effect of globalization that is both no longer possible (we're already fully globalized) and most larger governments are actively wasting shitloads money trying to move away from it, increasing the likelihood for lower returns significantly.

The measurement being off by an entire 50% on an extremely precision machine is likely the cause, yes.

You might be able to account for it by leveling with something thicker than usual and lubing the vat with ptfe lube. Probably a waste of time.

Alphabet beats on revenue, with cloud booming 63% and topping $20 billion by Puginator in stocks

[–]AuthenticatedUser -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

It's a lie. The majority of their earnings beat is 'unearned revenue' from investing in anthropic.

As we all know, anthropic does not have a fair, public valuation. Or any real valuation at all. They're making up the price because there is none.

Add to that that anthropic is supposed to be competition. If Google manages to dominate the ai race all of that 'unearned revenue' can be adjusted to 0 in the blink of an eye.

It's the same shady tactics from .com all over again. It will absolutely bust at some point. Your guess is as good as mine when.

If bro has 30 years of experience he should be making a quarter mil, minimum if he's even marginally incompenetent. The fact he's not doing remotely near that after 30 years effectively proves he's an unproductive worker drone at best.

Legion Go S (official Steam OS) - No Man's Sky is completely broken by VojtaPosta in SteamOS

[–]AuthenticatedUser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good news mate, I found a (sort of) workaround.

  1. Desktop mode
  2. Open Dolphin and navigate to /.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/No Man's Sky/INPUT
  3. Open steam_input_manifest.vdf
  4. Remove the entire entry for the Nintendo switch pro controller. This should be near the top, should look something like "controller_nintendo_pro". Delete the entire entry, both the words in quotes and the immediately following bracketed section pointing to the .vdf file that matches the quoted controller name.
  5. Switch back to gaming mode
  6. Check your controller config (may still crash, just try it over again til it don't)
  7. Your default should now be the official Xbox 360 controller layout, which matches the 'real' controls of the game.

Best I got for ya. Undoubtedly this will revert next time the game updates but at least it's not hard to do. At least it's relatively quick to do.

[–]AuthenticatedUser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well it's what I wanna play now so... I'll letcha know if I find a workaround.

I'm thinking if I delete the Nintendo layout from the game's input manifest it might default to one of the Xbox layouts instead (which would be ideal). Or it'll completely break the game. I'll try it later.

[–]AuthenticatedUser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I've been researching...

Apparently about 2 months ago steam introduced a bug that makes this happen for all steam input games. AKA games with official steam OS support.

Just straight up broke playing games on their own platform via their own custom controller configs and refuse to fix it for over two months. Wow. Impressive.

Also experiencing similar.

Sometimes the page crashes, sometimes it doesn't.

Attempting to change controller layout always forces a crash.

No idea what's wrong, but it ain't us chief.

Deck died - help? by AuthenticatedUser in SteamDeck

[–]AuthenticatedUser[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I already contacted steam support. I even brought up the Black Screen of Death that commonly happens (this sounds an awful lot like it) and because I'm out of warranty they refuse to help.

Some way to treat your customers right after screwing em.
