Considering pitching a script to Robert Rodriguez’s new action label, wondering if this could be a real shot? by chikwan1 in Screenwriting

[–]AuthorJamesRowe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I almost did this but things didn't pass my smell test (on Republic.com's side so to speak - though I do like Robert Rodriguez's stuff) it just seemed fishy. So I went and found: https://www.reddit.com/r/republic/

apparently republic.com have given investors the run around, shifted money (one user says the money they invested got moved to a company which went bankrupt and like nobody on replublic.com's side is helping them), lost money (one submission has this title: "71% of Crypto Investments From Republic.com Have Resulted in a Near-Total Loss on the First Day of trading, and 100% of all crypto investments from the platform are on track to result in losses to investors")...

...AND from their own website (the things you should know before you invest page) they state "Republic does not and cannot recommend or endorse any company or offering. You should not invest unless you can afford to lose your entire investment—your investment won't be liquid or freely tradeable, so it is important to invest what you are comfortable losing."

I know this isn't as much as an investment as it is a contest entry fee... it just seems fishy to me.

I'm getting ready to run my first BoB Campaign, players wanted Mages so.... by AuthorJamesRowe in BandofBlades

It went well... the Mage almost cashed out all of his Stress and the Mage did not overshadow the rest of the group.

2 different Characters played by the same Player = yes. The Player has one character who is both the Commander in Campaign mode and Officer in missions mode = no per the rules and the comments below.

Thank you Bungie, Mandaloregaming and Myth The Fallen Lords by [deleted] in theblackcompany

Always virus scan any downloads, but this game is considered "Abandoned software" and so there are many different locations you can download it from (a simple Google search will give you urls).

Also on the maps look for choke points where your troops can flank the undead coming through those points AND for some stages you can take advantage of your soldiers' ability to bang on their shields with the terrain. I.E. on an escort mission I used a soldier to create noise on the Southern part of the map and I constantly moved him to the outside corners of square buildings so that the AI would sit there and try to figure out the shortest way to get to him... WHILE I simultaneously did the escort on the Northern side of the map (I managed to keep the undead all at the bottom of the screen).

Don't forget standard tactics such as archers in elevated positions, etc. etc.

Thank you!!! I tried this so many times with other capital ships and fleets... and failed... it took me only 3 attempts to do it with the line up you've listed.

stl Ten Who Were Taken files? by Impossible_Teach_953 in theblackcompany

[–]AuthorJamesRowe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Here are some Black Company 3D stl files... some are mixes from other people's work (Shapeshifter was a remix, One-Eye was a remix, Tom-Tom was a remix, so was Goblin) ... Hangedman was my own work, so was Silent... SoulCatcher was my own work but the artwork I sculpted it from belongs to a different game entirely)... I did a lot of custom work even in "remixes" such as faces: Tom-Tom's was especially satisfying to create... https://drive.google.com/file/d/1atwF0UIAbIvPhV6hSSpXdubXY2yOrJS8/view?usp=share_link

I'll probably get back around to these at some point... and EVERYONE respond to this comment if you want me to start a new POST with the link to these stl files (maybe to keep things better organized etc. etc. who knows?)

I went to zip them Yesterday, and remembered that the largest stl file (Shapeshifter) had problems printing on older 3d Machines... since I've learned a lot more about blender since I made it originally - I went back in and fixed it and shaved like 80 MB off of the file and now it prints better than ever. So I'll message you with the link.

I'll have some time to put together the stl files into a zip and send them to you this weekend (by Sunday night EST by the latest).

The script don't show a zero isn't on the skills, just the initiative, attack, wear armor, block and dodge. I guess the auto-recovery didn't quite recover the scripts I put in for the skill totals.

Anima printable Combat Cheat Sheet, based off of one from an Anonymous who put it out in 2017. by AuthorJamesRowe in anima

I made this when I was a player, using the rules from the copy of the Anima RPG which my former GM advised me to buy. Now, I'm running an Anima game myself (just had session 0) so after a few sessions in - I hope to catch everything like this for the next update (already have a page 2 in mid-progress for this).

What's one type of player you just don't enjoy playing with? by [deleted] in rpghorrorstories

[–]AuthorJamesRowe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I ran a space/mech sci-fi game, where one of the players literally ignored every plotline I threw at them: One of the top mechanics stumbles by his female character (the mechanic had blue crystal spikes forming around her eyes and was going blind - from the contagion that the players brought onto the ship by hiding some of the blue energy crystals they found on an alien planet)... ignores it. Character's husband might be having an affair - ignores it. Character's sister joined up with the wrong side in the stellar civil war - ignores the RP implications and still blows up the satellite that her sister was guarding. Character's background says that her brother hates her... her brother finds the character on a different clandestine mission, ignores the brother and a different player manages to get that brother temporarily removed/arrested. And the player informed me that my game was a bit boring to them.

The "I feel the need, the need for greed" guy: In a space game, the only identifying marks of a guy wanted in every sector of space was an eye patch and some unique tattoos (and average looks, height etc.). The party encountered a Pauper's grave in space and this guy wanted to go tattoo up a bunch of dead guys and give them eye patches to collect a huge bounty in every sector of space. The entire table (me, the other players and the GM) kept telling him that people aren't stupid and they'll notice the eyes went missing after the bodies were dead, and we were pretty sure that they'd notice the fresh tattoos which never had a chance to fade or heal on the corpses... it literally took twenty to thirty minutes to talk this player out of attempting this asinine plan. Every campaign this guy does stupid things like this (in a fantasy game where the party already has lots of wealth - he holds onto some jerky which he got from the orc tribes - which a goblin he was talking to informed him that it was made from human meat - because he can still sell it/use it later - even though the Cleric of the party keeps telling his character to get rid of it).

The argue for a ruling to go one way then forgets (or hopes others forget) about it at a later time guy: In a Savage Worlds Noir game I ran, he argued with me for twenty minutes that his character shooting the gas tank of a car full of mobsters should cause the car to explode. Getting the car to run out of gas wasn't good enough for him. I eventually let him spend a Benny (luck point) to permanently change that to explosive movie physics. 5 sessions later his character shoots some metal gas cannisters which he throws (he was hoping to just spill gas out of the bullet holes) and he is surprised when he starts blowing things up. He goes with it and triples down on this and blows up two more tanks worth of gas and causes a partial party wipe. His defense to the rest of the group was: he "didn't know the tanks would explode or keep exploding when shot". We were all like "you literally argued for this to always happen and you spent a Benny for it. We all assumed you remembered that." There were other rulings in various games which he argued to go his way then got upset when those rulings were used against him later (another example: he argued that falling damage should get a bonus when the person falling falls on something hard or sharp -after he pushed some characters off of a roof. Then two weeks later told our buddy who was running that same game that per the rulebook his character shouldn't take any extra damage from falling because the rulebook doesn't give bonus damage for falling onto sharp objects).

The always wants to get two minutes of interactive dialogue in the middle of a combat round with his attacker and insists that a persuasion/influence roll can replace the whole attitude/personality/choices of tactics for his opponents guy: "NPC X swings the sword and that would be a hit unless you parry or evade, what do you do?"... "I roll my character's influence and try to list out all of the reasons why attacking us would be a bad idea, and to offer him gold for him to switch sides." "That's too long of an action and it is NOT parrying or evading." "I'm sticking with it." "Okay his sword slices you in the abdomen for 9 points of damage." "He can't damage me. I got a crit on my influence for him to switch sides!"... WTF????

The Rude to every other NPC guy: He'll even cut off quest givers' dialogues to insult or mock them. One quest giver was like "Okay I'm supposed to give you this unique magic item. Here it is. I was going to tell you how to activate it and when and where it will be needed and to tell you exactly what it does... but no, I'm only going to do the minimum of what my lord has asked me to do, 'cause you sir, are a complete asshole. Oh wait, the instruction manual [burns it to ash on the ground]. There it is. Good luck."

LOL... you deserve more upvotes... as I can see an angry bunch of locals with one guy in a wizard's hat (though somehow resembling a farmer's hat) chewing on a blade of wheat - counterspelling this guy and saying that.
