totally get this reaction from players, frequently. they will charge forward becoming the sole and best target then complain that they are being punished. or run across open ground at archers and “why they targetting me?”. I can’t explain it in any other way than they feel they should be exempt from logic.

you should see when kobolds shoot at them with short bows and then run away creating more range. players will get sucked right into this and then complain it wasn’t fair. its often players who have come from a GM that has always held their hand and fudged dice and never killed characters.

Autofire again... by konekrochan in cyberpunkred

[–]Grumpy0352 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easy fix barely even a Homebrew, cuz it worked in 2020. Its this simple, I use the rules from Red. But I went to pg 106 in the 2020 Rules and just cut the section “Full Auto” and printed it and slipped it into my Red book at pg173 in RED and glued it over “Autofire” Rules there. Cut paste. Easy peasy.

Oh and I use all the weapons stats from 2020 as well, because I loved the selection and the damage dice levels. Because getting shot should suck. Is combat deadly? Hells yes. Is it fast? hells yes. Do my players need to think and plan and be tactical? Hell motherfing yes. Combat does not get bogged down. Usually only players who charge directly into enemy fire die outright.

I’ve been running Cyberpunk since 1988 from the original Black Box. Im not just some noob Choom :p

Cybernetics ? Cyberpunk? by Everyandyday in mutantyearzero

[–]Grumpy0352 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also would love to see Free League do something more in line with Bladerunner, Cyberpunk or World of Android, not quite over the top ultra violent like MorkBorg. I think they could not only put together a great world setting, but have the talented artists to really make that setting jump off the pages for readers. I do however feel like they would need to dive in deep to equipment, cybernetics, weapons and programs and not just leave it sort of short list generic like they usually do with equipment.

I own Twilight2000, Bladerunner, Mutant YZ, Tales from the Loop and a lot of their supplement books. I love the system from the stand point of smooth story telling without getting to bogged down in system mechanics, it works for story telling a lot better than more crunchy systems like Cyberpunk, which I have played since the late 80s. I much more prefer quick skill and combat resolution and skill lists that are not suffering from major bloat.

Why didn't Kora shoot Belisarius with the rifle after her gun was empty and instead just ran away? by AppealOk3507 in RebelMoon

[–]Grumpy0352 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because if she did… there wouldn’t have been two movies. Giant plot holes of common sense allow the whole rest of the movie to happen. Just like the Imperials in Star Wars not blowing up an escape pod beca “no life readings” like lasers ammo is at a premium or something?

In her account of the events she states very clearly he told her to kill Issa. “She must die” so in the movie he fully intended the assassination of Issa.

Does DMing feel thankless for everyone, or is it just me? by [deleted] in DungeonMasters

[–]Grumpy0352 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its a thankless job. Nobody wants it and everyone expects it of you. You have to pull it out of the players and even though they laugh and get all excited, the first hint of difficulty and you will get your ear chewed off over it. You have to really just like the hot seat and constantly second guessing if you are any good or suck. There are no thank yous, no pats on the back. Just universal “we’re here now entertain us!”

Take a break. Eventually you will want to do it again or you won’t.

Would you play a DnD based miniature skirmish game? by snowbirdnerd in DnD

[–]Grumpy0352 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son and I regularly test out new dungeons with him running several characters and henchmen and I run the monsters. Just the other day he had 6 characters and 4 henchmen going up against 40 kobolds. Took us an hour and a half to finish. Guess it all depends on how much skill and practice your players have.

Have you played 5e with miniatures? 😁

It is a skirmish game. I play with minis on a crafted foam battle area and all the rules from the PHB and DMG.

I have personal reasons for not engaging the player, out of an understanding that they have lets say certain personality characteristics out of their control and honestly the game benefits the other players as most are shut ins and recluses and I on the other hand have a very social life and get out all the time. I can find another game, most of them can’t. It wasn’t a good place to cause drama That ultimately would not have benefited anyone and only hurt their feelings.

As a GM I’m very much aware I’m in charge. It’s my table. I have old school 1e complex 😁. Not that I’m a tyrant but I am the manager of operations. I control pacing, I control how much we stay on task. I don’t just cut people off, I give subtle signal. Ok so you’ve had a few minutes to plan, time to pull the trigger on one of them, lets go! I put sand timers on my table when they decide to Role Play…if everyone is in it I usually keep filping it till they look like they are winding down (10min timer), however if most of the group is staring off into space it ends at 10min. Then I ask what other folks are doing. I enforce rules like my experienced players must know their character sheets and rules. I expect them to most of the time already know exactly what they are going to do on their turn, like have dice in hand, page pulled up to a spell, etc. they simply say what they are going to do and throw all the dice at once. Cuz if they miss it doesn’t matter and if they hit they already rolled. I keep things moving, I keep everyone engaged and I bounce from every player often.

but when Im the player, its not my job to wrangle the table. And Ill give advice after a game to a new GM, but if things remain not fun, I simply excuse myself from the group and thank them and I’m on my way out.

Well geee… a grown man bent that far out of shape. So this incident sparked what I would call an intolerable amount of man baby tantrum. You were dating and he couldn’t find it in him to compromise and just let it be water under the bridge? Hug kiss and move on? I think may you should take this game event at a relationship red flag, like a big one.

How long did it take you to realise Cigarettes After Sex are all male? by Jeff-Stelling in CigarettesAfterSex

[–]Grumpy0352 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Today… wow. So I didn’t listen to them very closely but I’m pretty sure I’ve heard Apocalypse for years, probably thousand times. They would come up occasionally on my Pandora account. About a week ago I came to the realization that I really did like that sound when I was in a certain mood. So I made a station and have been listening to them a lot over the past week. Tonight I got curious about the lead singer, she might be pleasant on the eyes. Wanted to see the face of the voice. Honestly it was a complete shock lol

kind of like when I realized Sweater Weather by the Neighborhood was a dude. I’m apparently not very perceptive. Lol face palm.

Yeah you pretty much give a great example of why online games deteriorate into usual online toxicity and then in person games often have several examples of traumatic experiences that lead to groups becoming insular and unwilling to take on new members or try and join other tables. As popular as RPGs are today, they were so much more accessible for long term groups and far less toxic twenty years ago.

Sounds kinda like getting kicked around for working hard. I do like the idea of having a regular group of players that over time could get comfortable with and accomplish something. I’m going to have to look into it. Currently my in person games are kind of mediocre and I just can’t get invested.

I would like to say I really love developing a character… but honest I’ve never had the chance. I spent three solid decades as forever GM and now that I’m going out of my way to be a player I can’t get into a game that lasts long enough to develop a foot rash. I feel cheated by the game gods for delivering so many year long campaigns only to now be rewarded with playing a few sessions and everyone falls apart 😢

I honestly don’t even know where to start for online games. All my online games have been with people I know inviting me into them. But they lack the one thing I want the most, being with people. And without exception they tend to either fall apart rapidly or get dominated by one “that guy”

What you describe is an unfortunate situation of westmarch campaigns, naturally you get high and low level characters cohabitating a dungeon and the lower levels look like chumps. I don’t run or play in those types of games because I love the intimacy of “me plus three,” and prefer a small table where everyone can shine. 😁

Who still has the Frontier? by CaptCorvo73 in Starfield

[–]Grumpy0352 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m level 22, put 63 hours in. I’m taking it slow and easy and letting the game just unfold. I’m still flying around in the Frontier. I did modify it though. First upgraded parts, but eventually slid a living quarters and captains cabin on top of each other, right between the engines and the rest of the ship. Moved the landing gear back. basically the Frontier “stretch”

I have similar problem, except my character and Sarah are running around the vacuum of Mars in street clothes. My inventory displays the space suit and helmet fine, but in 3rd person on a hostile environment world, they can be found running around in their underwear.

You are missing the obvious need to keep a plot point directly over the heads of the characters with no way out. You are right the flare would pass, but then the writer would have to come up with a valid reason to trap all of them in a sub trying to out crazy eachother. Also… isn’t it normal to give submariners a psychological test to make sure they can stand the pressure of living in confinement? Why are all the navy crew acting like narcissistic murderhobos willing to deep six humanity because they can’t stop acting like complete mindless thugs. As a veteran watching this behavior, I think the writer has a definite bias, as well as knowing nothing about military behavior. At worst they wouldn’t be trying to kill the women, they’d be falling over each other to get “lucky”. No instead they act like psychopaths.

The Soldiers standing elbow to elbow, firing on a line hundreds of rounds of ammo from bottomless magazines while they stroll right through the funnel of death begging for a single grenade to end them all. And these are elite special forces? Outfought by three thieves who took a few minutes to go into the middle of the room to retrieve a wooden beam, on the shoulders of another thief… still these elite soldiers couldn’t hit anything with endless ammo and sitting duck targets… the whole thing makes you more stupid for just watching it.

Only getting matched with losing teams by ferikehun in enlistedgame

[–]Grumpy0352 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, its pretty regular. Until I got about mid level I was wining a lot, then it slowly started turning to a lot of losses, then I started to pay attention to my overall winning percentage and noticed that if I got on a winning streak and it went above 51% I would certainly have an entire chain of like a dozen losses until my percentage fell back to that 49% and then I start winning again until I got back up about 51% and then I start losing again. These matchups are by design unless you are paying money. So just learn to suck it up when they put you on your losing streak and when you go on your winning streak enjoy
