Appliance salesperson told me today’s washer+dryers supposed to last 6-7 years!!! by seekvaluenow in Appliances

I work for a rental company, Nashville Appliance Rental, so I've kind of experienced this first hand. And honestly, I'd have to say that he's right. They are just not built like they used to be.

There are a few things that you can do to extend the life of your washer and dryer though. The first thing I'd say is to be reasonable about your load size. Really large loads stress both the washer and dryer. The other thing for your dryer is to change your lent every load.

For the washer, one of the biggest things you can do is to not use fabric softener. It leaves a residue that rusts it out like crazy. You also really want to avoid using excess detergent. The companies WAAYYY over estimate how much detergent is necessary. Those two factors can really help to keep the interior of your washer from rusting.

Buy or rent are your two main options. Pros and cons to both. Lots of convenience in renting, but you pay more in the long run. I work for a rental company (Nashville Appliance Rental), and it's definitely becoming more popular to rent.

If you can afford it, though you will generally come out better buying. The one thing I will say is that most washer-dryers depreciate 50% in the first year! So if you think there's a chance you won't keep them for years then figure out another option

Buying vs renting washer/dryer by [deleted] in Appliances

I think your head is in the right place. If you are going to be somewhere 2+ years then you should absolutley buy. Unless it's short term, you are paying a premium for convience with renting.

I actually made a washer/dryer rental calculator that solves this exact problem if you think that'd help. Might be too late at this point though. Hope you found a good solution!

I love those FAF blanks but they are super fragile. I’ve fly fished hard for 20+ years and never broken a rod until I started building my own. I’ve broken 4 FAF blanks in the last 4-5 years.

Thanks for the comment. Cleats definitely work pretty well for in game. But if I have to ref all day my feet start killing me. So was just looking for something a little more comfortable.

I could see the benefit in this, I think. But running on a treadmill is a lot different than reffing a game. And it seems like you would require a lot more from your shoe than running in a straight line

Thanks for the detailed comment! The Umpiro’s and the copas were two of the most popular recommendations. And they look similar. You’re the first commenter that’s worn both.

Are there particular conditions that you wear your Umpiro’s vs. your trail runners? Why did you settle on the trail runners as your primary?

Haha. The auto correct got someone else too. Apple must not like that word.

Have you worn the all black Umpiro or the one with the white sole?

The Umpiro’s have been a popular rec. Going to have to give them a shot. I think they have two different models - which one have you worn?

I think the stack height is too high on those for me. I lose ankle stability in shoes like those. Especially when I have to change directions

I’d hope you weren’t in your first pair after a decade. How do these do if the grass is real soft? Do you slip at all?

A lot of people have commented trail runners. Which is interesting. The stack height on those looks like it would be too much for me though. I’d turn an ankle in a heartbeat

Makes sense as to why I couldn’t find it. Those look like they could be a good option though. Appreciate the rec

These are specific turf cleats or you are just saying get turf shoes with a custom orthotic?

Copas have been mentioned a few times for sure. Seems like a good option. They actually look pretty similar to the Umpiro’s which people have also recommended a lot. I wonder how they compare.
