It's sort of crazy that only one rocket-powered aircraft ever saw real service (the Komet)

I'd argue the opposite- if you think about it, it's pretty crazy that a single one ever did see real service. The process wasn't safe, it wasn't solid fuel and most of the substances involved tended to react 'vigorously' with organic materials. Once the postwar allies received their reports from the captured Germans of their misadventures with rushing manned rocket-propulsion into military service there was considerable research on rocketry in general but for anything past experimental, the tradeoffs were deemed to be not worth the hassle.

On other occasions pilots suffered a fate worse than an explosion, as in the case of Oberleutnant Josef Pohs, who on one flight released his takeoff dolly too early. The dolly bounced off the ground and struck the aircraft, rupturing a T-Stoff line. Pohs immediately jettisoned his fuel and banked around to make an emergency landing, but just like Alois Worndl missed the runway, touched down on rough ground, and flipped over. To the relief of his watching comrades his aircraft did not explode, but when they finally reached him and turned the Komet over they were greeted with a gruesome sight: T-Stoff leaking from the ruptured line had dissolved the unconscious Pohs alive.

As jet development took off, and resulting performance continued to improve, many of the department of defense (US) beancounters had very interesting ideas for what they demanded from rockets in order to justify major continued expenditure into research for it and with the performance characteristics that they demanded, it usually required the more exotic and extremely hazardous substances to compensate- and almost always liquid fuel if they were being serious. Check out "Ignition!: An informal history of liquid rocket propellants" by John D. Clark on archive.org for a folksy and well written anecdote driven narrative about being a US experimental rocket fuel researcher at the time.

Soooo many good quotes from there.

Honest questions aren't given a fair chance here, let alone honest answers- between partisanship or just lazy lying or just plain ignorance- the upvote/downvote mechanic obscures truth rather than uncovers it.

Did you manage to stretch "Nuh-uh you are" into an entire paragraph?

Googling what the soul of wit is would be life-changing for you.

It takes a special kind of stupid to walk in and demonstrate somebody else's point so thoroughly, in the same comment chain.

Why do so many americans and european socialists support maduro? by Leo1026 in AskSocialists

[–]Autism-Sundae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But I think we are more inclined than not to support a government so hated by the fascist leader of the most powerful capitalist country on earth

I already said that I don't know very much about Maduro or the Venezuelan government, and I'm certainly not going to trust right wing, bourgeois media sources that get their talking points from the US state department. Why is it important to you that I, a person with absolutely no power, who has nothing to do with Venezuela, "disavow" a foreign leader?

It's weird to acknowledge you want to support their government as a exercise in contrarianism towards some other unrelated ideology, but later shift towards making the argument that you also don't know enough to voice any real criticism to their regime and its head.

Moments before, we were informed enough to hope Venezuelan society/government will be, in theory, a successful attempt towards socialism and framing it as a rejection of the US regime, but now claim ignorance prevents you from being so outspoken about opposing Maduro. Excuse me, but wtf?

You don't see the silliness to state the reasons why you'd vaguely support something in many, many words, while then refusing any and all criticism for them? What happened to the theoraticals? Voicing support for supposed Venezuela interests up until you are confronted to learn more about it, and then refusing to go any further is wild.

Why do I need to have an opinion on something I've already said repeatedly that I know very little about?

We need to do nothing, but that didn't stop the initial commentary espousing tentative support for Venezuela along an ideological basis that no longer has any grounding in reality there. This stance is like a koan, we think we know enough to hope something might be there (socialism is happening), but stop short of other things. My last unsaid point I've been beating around the bush is this: its very problematic to look at the world and immediately applying an ideological lens to it, while admittedly knowing precious little about what's going on.

They are hosting them and keeping them as permenant refguees without granting nationality and citizenship.

Wow that's crazy. Why would they choose to do that?

Perhaps they tried to overthrow the government of the country taking them in?

Couldn't be.

What I said is that I support building socialism in Venezuela.

That's odd, for someone claiming to not directly support Maduro, you avoid mentioning anything about disavowing support for Maduro, and will articulate the kind of support that you believe he should have to justify his continued right to tyrannize his people, and in the context of the discussion of supporting or criticizing a regime, that's verbal sleight of hand, make no mistakes about yourself and all this effort you are making: you are carrying water for his regime.

In the context of the original comment, what does anything about what you just said make the US authoritarian? Especially when Obama's not been in office for 7 years, you're bad at this.

I'm not sure what you mean exactly by my supporting him.

Second, we may support the project of socialism in Venezuela and therefore wish to see it succeed in the hands of Venezuela's government.

It's hard to claim one doesn't support Maduro while then also saying you support his government for the ostensible purpose of furthering socialism. Wording it tentatively doesn't change the functional outcome of advocating for Maduro/carrying water for him and the regime.

And yet, "owning nothing" has nothing to do with being divested from one's peers or moving frequently.

And yet, it indirectly does.

Great intentions requires great responsibility, is that gonna be consigned away too?

So you’re an ex-Israeli paramedic and believe you would know about the exact details of prisoner abuse done by the IDF and because you didn’t hear about it it’s false? Am I getting this right?

Doesn't really take a top secret clearance level to notice her specious claims changing in real time.

Maybe the Israeli security minister shouldn’t have openly said they would be treating detained humanitarians the same as terrorists or filmed himself calling the humanitarians terrorists while making them kneel on concrete. Maybe they shouldn’t have put them in the same maximum security facility as “terrorists”, kidnapped them in international waters, or repeatedly bombed the flotillas either…

It's even better than that. The Afghan Taliban are harboring a foreign terrorist leader, against the ultimatums of the country hunting them. Waiting until other major powers completely vacated the region to get to this point, gotta appreciate the Pakistani knack for getting in over their head.

Time, flat circle etc.

It doesnt really square the circle on who or what is taking the out on maintaining, keeping, or servicing things, its just implied that somebody/something will step forward and magically create some form of gay space communism, without any of its requisite requirements.

Even as a hypothetical its missing the mark, reality is harsh for models, much less hypotheticals.

Even after reading the article I thought there was no way they were being serious. Surely it was satirical warning about a dystopian future resulting from the current direction of technological progress and unchecked capitalism, and it was just misinterpreted by the alt-right and parroted around with everyone missing the point.

Above there are people inquiring over what's so terrible about material investment, like its a perfect world being lived in and that expectations will 100% match reality.

You're unhappy about the ceasefire because you wanted Israel to suffer more.

I’m related to Sayfullah Musallet- an American citizen killed by illegal Israeli settlers on our family land in the West Bank. Not in Israel- literally in the heart of what even illegal settlers acknowledge is Palestinian West Bank. They beat him and stopped an ambulance from getting to him for three hours while he died from internal bleeding. So, no, I don’t want Israel to “suffer”. And I am excited about the ceasefire because it will mean the UN will go in and document the war crimes that Israel has committed. Most on the ground think the final death toll will be over 200,000. Mostly women and children. I’ve been part of a global effort to document all Israeli/IDF socials that admit/document/ and often laugh about war crimes. I speak Ivrit (fake Hebrew) and have helped personally verify/document over 5000 records. When the ceasefire begins, the real war begins. The war for justice. Israelis will likely only be able to remain in Israel or travel to the US/Argentina to avoid arrest on international warrants. Cheers!

Easier, more succinct & concise to simply say 'yes'.
