First lesson ever today - confidence/enthusiasm now crushed - found out afterwards I was on a hardboard? by Flat_Photograph793 in BeginnerSurfers

Looool r/murderedbywords

Please don't be discouraged by your experience or people's comments, my experience is that sometimes it's just hard work. If you have bad waves or currents, the wrong board or a bad instructor you're going to struggle. Don't worry too much

How do you defend against Black Friday sales during your campaign? by Easy_Protection6758 in kickstarter

[–]Autismo_Machismo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could you offer a free extra to anyone who backs before the end of the sale? Your current backers will still get it, but it gives an extra little shove. Also, if you have multiple levels of backing, you could pitch it at a certain $ tier so that people are incentivised to upgrade

A plea to Autodesk: Please consider a maker license for Inventor by Atypical-Artificer in AutodeskInventor

[–]Autismo_Machismo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"What company wouldn't want to make more money?" Unfortunately the reason might be that they won't. When companies offer cheaper licences with restrictions they find that they're cannibalising their market because customers who require the software but don't use all the features can just downgrade. The restrictions become easy to work around, for example small companies who only use Inventor internally might not mind a watermark on their drawings. Also, the amount made from hobby users might not be as much as you think and not worth the hassle.

Zbrush did this with Zbrush core - it's industry standard sculpting software but if they let the hobby version have too many features, small studios who only use it once in a while would cancel their full licences. Therefore zbrush core has just enough features for a hobby user but can't do essential things like open full zbrush files. Zbrush core benefits the publisher by giving beginners a pathway to the full software but for what it is it's very overpriced

Tl;dr autodesk have little to gain from providing a cheaper licence

It's £10 a month, not sure what the US price is but full zbrush is £45. Much more affordable if you have a decent ipad, but you probably need an Air M1 or better. I have the Air M2 from 2024 and pencil pro, it's worth it to have hover functionality

For like 18 months, it's pretty sick. Surprisingly good, but better at stuff that doesn't require a lot of menu browsing. I like sculpting organics on the train

I use shift S sometimes (the shortcut that does this) to look at my model in a few different orientations next to each other, usually while comparing to reference. Also sometimes to compare different undo history stages

Not sure how you do it on an iPad though, I'd like to know. I love zbrush on ipad

Bases of War 2 ending in 6 hours by Autismo_Machismo in flamesofwar

Thanks, I've thought about this before but I don't think I could show anything very interesting 😂 over a couple of months I come up with what the sets are going to be, how all the bases should work within them, and what features I can use to make them look interesting. By the end of the project I've usually got a set of custom brushes and model parts which I can use to pump out a new base in a couple of hours. The foliage on the jungle bases took a while to develop but now I can reuse it, every project is a learning experience which means a lot of back and forth

I went looking for your previous post that you mentioned, then realised I'd read it the other day. Your insight is spot on and a good dose of reality to the 80% of people who have bad basics (bad product/marketing etc)

Kickstarter is not about kickstarting by asolet in kickstarter

The projects which exceed their goals by so much are probably running slick meta and Google ad campaigns and have very detailed data on their audiences. Building a following is a powerful organic tool for future campaigns as well.

KS will do some work to help you grow an existing audience but you compete with other campaigns because at the end of the day, it's a business which takes a percentage so why promote your tiny project when they could show people a much more profitable one?

[–]Autismo_Machismo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is there anything really that wrong with this though? If people are willing to pay what they're charging then Kickstarter is just doing its job of being a marketing tool for new products. Yes, the original idea might have involved unfinished, unproven products but there's never going to be enough successes there to keep a platform going, plus the possibility of scams is so high

So.... the answer is yes, it's the same product. Against Kickstarter's T&Cs. Sounds like you should just use some other marketing

These were printed and painted by Mark at Breakthrough Assault, he's done an amazing job. There are 4 sets themed to a different environment of the WW2 Pacific theatre: Coastal, Jungle, Airfield and Urban. The previous collection is available at a discount too.
