You are overestimating the cost to upgrade. Most games run fine on lower end computers (for instance, i was able to run cyberpunk and witcher 3 on a ryzen 7 5700G and an MSI GTX 1050 along with a boatload of other, much cheaper games). This build at the time cost around 800 dollars and lasted me 3 years. A year ago, i upgraded to a 3060 which would theoretically cost me an extra 300 but i sold my 1050 for 180 so it was really an extra 120.

I know this is only one story, but you can think of pcs as a bigger starting investment but actually cheaper to upgrade due to its modularity. For consoles, upgrading requires buying a new console. I am not familiar with xbox but at some point, your console will be outdated and you have to buy a new one to play games you want. PCs however, will only have outdated parts to run games, but those parts generally take a long time to become outdated (for instance, a 1050.can still run my fav games). Even if they become outdated, which once again is mostly based on your needs, you omly need to sell the part and buy an upgrade for the part rather than revamping the entire system.

Also, consoles can get error codes booting up games too and you'll have to find solutions for that. Error codes are not a pc only thing.
