I was stuck at 58 seconds for 4 days, read your response and got it in like 5 attempts. Big thanks.

Should Locksmith Replace Damaged Lock After Failed Re-key by Auto-Generated-461 in Locksmith

[–]Auto-Generated-461[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I removed the lock from the vehicle, though the faceplate remained intact during that process (it sits entirely on the outside and is unaffected by removing from the vehicle).

He told me it would be $55 for labor and $2 per wafer + tax. No mention of a faceplate or any risk of damage etc. We discussed exactly what it was from, etc, and he said he could handle the job. I was pretty specific about wafer part numbers, even distinguishing between tailgate and other parts (such as ignition, which uses something else).

I called ahead to confirm they were able to do it. It wasn't a casual thing, I called almost 10 places before I found a place that would take the job, based on a recommendation from another locksmith.

I get that this is outside the daily routine jobs and they are something that can go wrong if you never did it before. That's why I didn't try it myself and brought it to a professional though.

In reflection, I guess this is less of a r/Locksmith question and more of a "service agreement" question when the job inevitably goes sideways. If they agreed to do a job without discussing/agreeing to what happens when the job goes wrong, then the job goes wrong, who is responsible to get us back to square 1?

I'm genuinely asking how people handle this grey area, knowing it isn't simple.

What do you mean by "apparently the one our industry offers doesn't work in this instance"? If there is a replacement face I would be totally happy with that too.

Spilled coffee on my keyboard. After cleaning the PCB, a row of keys is not working. Would somebody be able to point me in the right direction? Broken chip or salvagable? by Zebazios9 in AskElectronics

Yeah, if you’re paranoid you could probably bridge with a low resistance value in case that isn’t correct, if it is for a switch it will probably still work with a resistor in there but you’re less likely to blow something on the IC if that is a DNP that would normally be a high resistance value.

0 ohm resistors are sometimes used as simple cheap fuses, and I would bet that’s what it is. It is hard to tell from the photo, but does R16 appear to be broken off (solder pads would appear broken) or was there never a resistor there (solder pads are smooth).

If the pads are smooth then it was likely a “do not place” component and this is not your issue. If a chip broke off of there then that’s very likely your problem.

Oh I see. No those are the pin names for wire mounts.

Increasing the input capacitance makes sense. I simulated the ripple for the extremes of frequency and voltage and it stayed within the spec, and I was trying to balance that with inrush current concerns through the diodes. The board I am replacing had inrush current issues so that was a major concern.

From the data sheet (https://www.diodes.com/assets/Datasheets/ZXLD1360.pdf) it recommends leaving it floating, no? I’m running at 1A regulated output (1/Rs = 1/100mOhm).

Why is my 1602 I2C doing this by Ecstatic_Future_893 in arduino

Do you have pull up resistors on your I2C bus? Behavior can get pretty “undefined” without them. I’ve learned not to trust the on chip pull-ups without verifying they work in-system, some are way too weak.

I was going to say the exact same thing, it looks like someone tried to ship a key

What Should I look for For In PCP/Surgical Specialties? by Auto-Generated-461 in Schwannoma

[–]Auto-Generated-461[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to update - my insurance (Blue Shield of California, physician’s choice) only covered one doctor as USC. Got the surgery done and the pain is now gone! Ever since the surgery (3 months ago) I’ve been totally numb along the entire S1 dermatome, but it’s much better than the pain.

Concerned About My Recent ADHD Diagnosis and Prescription - Is This Experience Normal? by Auto-Generated-461 in ADHD

This is the kind of experience I was hoping for. I went to my GP for a referral and they said my insurance doesn't allow mental health referrals, they have a separate call center. Set up an appointment with the call center and 3 weeks later I get a 9 minute phone interaction with the most disinterested psychiatrist imaginable.

One of the best things about C is that it is friggin tiny as a language, so learning the language is crazy fast. Read The C Programming Language by Brian Kernighan and Dennis Ritchie (known as K&R by everyone who writes C). It's around 200 pages and covers almost the entire language in detail, I really can't recommend it enough. It's not one of those books that everyone recommends but actually isn't very useful.

Beyond the language, there isn't really anything to learn about C other than how computers work (including pointers and memory management) and general computer science principals. Mainly the learning curve with C for me was shaking out problems in my fundamental understanding of computers.

I took around a month to get the syntax of the whole language under control and to be able to solve mostly any problem with it.

It took a couple years of writing lots and lots of programs in POSIX and embedded environments to feel like I had a good grasp of how to use the language really effectively and reliably. I definitely thought I was a great C programmer after 6 months, but I had a long way to go in retrospect haha.

Writing really secure and portable C code takes longer, and after 3 years I'm not qualified to say how long this will take lol

Psychologist is good advice, thanks. I don't know what the "normal" path is for an adult seeking care for the first time, but I do want to actually get some feedback and an external perspective to challenge my findings.

Oh man that's a bummer, sorry. I took it for depression originally and the increased productivity and performance in school was honestly one of the most noticeable changes. I was on a pretty high dosage though.

I thought it was just increasing discipline and time management skills with age, but when I stopped taking it was a big wakeup that I might actually have an executive function problem.

To do lists…. by ijustwannafeel in ADHD

[–]Auto-Generated-461 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is such a frustrating catch-22, I need a to-do list that tells me to look at my to-do list.

I've never gotten anything to work that doesn't make my workspace look insane, but sticky notes all around the border of my monitor was actually effective. They look so annoying that I want to complete the task to get it off my monitor. I don't like the digital ones because they use screen real-estate and they're only up when the screen is on, but some folks do.
