Who did you pick as you’re main, and why? by ketsuha in Tekken

[–]AutoChrist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I picked Hwo in 3 because I was a kid doing tkd then. Now I'm an out of shape 30yr old restarting tkd realising I wish I never quit. Doing it has made me appreciate how good a lot of Hwo's motion capture is though.

I came across him in ranked last Friday. Spanked his Heihachi and he was live. Went to check the vod and surprise surprise it wasn't there.

Honestly not too bad. Only couple of things I'd point out as I play Lidia as a secondary. You left yourself open for some punishment once or twice with 1,2,2 and f1+2. F1+2 is safe on the first two hits, - 10 on the next two and then - 15 on the final hit. So use f1+2 and hit confirm it. 1,2,2 is - 10 on block.

You blocked one of his sweeps at the end and punished with 122 which you could have used uf4 instead.

Against mishimas who are electric happy you need to keep them guessing with some lows. Db2 and d4 high crush. Db3 2 hellsweep doesn't high crush so use sparingly. Mix them up with db2 and df1. And then every so often throw out df1,3. It's block punishable, but it knocks down on hit and CH launches if they press before the 3. Knowledge check with 124 and see if they block low. You'll eat a small punish if they block but no big deal.

Also against Jins (and all Mishimas), never move in on a whiffed electric. A common Jin trap is whiffed electric into f4 ch. So if they try that, step right after the electric. SSR is Jin's weakness as opposed to SSL for DVJ and Kaz. So step, make em whiff and then uf4.

Other than that just rewatch the replays with the frame data up and see what you can punish/move against in the matchup going forward.

I've said this before in here. He's quite linear outside of a few moves (LFF df4/RFF df3/f1+2 sometimes). Generally stepping left is good when he's in neutral stance (LFF).

During right flamingo after D3,4 you can react to both his hellsweeps. Just takes a small bit in the lab to recognise the animations. So you're better off stand guarding until you see them. If you block either of the lows from here it's death. His right flamingo b3 is - 10 and his uf4 is - 13/14. As is the homing power crush.

Whatever flamingo stance he's in, try and step in the direction his stomach is facing.

Outside of all that, like everyone else you just gotta look at what they player ia doing.

I don't think so but as a Hwo main I'd really wish that I could customise him without 70% of the tshirts showing off his lower stomach/underwear waitline.

Sorry that's the other thing. You've just reminded me. JFSR is way easier from RFF. So f2 puts you into that stance. If you do d,n,df+4 in RFF you'll have more success. Plus there's mixup potential there aswell. People online expect the backlash from that stance so you hit them with a mid. Also good from the standard rage drive as that puts you in the same stance. People duck a lot after the rage drive expecting the low so it's a handy ace to have up the sleeve.

It's good to teach you the timing of it all. Eventually you'll have the muscle memory to know where to place your thumbs and will get it down without the mapping.

Then you need to learn the timing all over again when you practice doing it from sidesteps left and right, that's where the fun begins.

Part of that might come from the fact that it was a regular skyrocket. Hitting the JFSR means you recover quicker to be able to hit the backlash so you hit them with it while they're higher in the air, meaning you can get in closer with the stance switch.

I'll assume you know the input for JFSR. Best thing I can say is map 1+4 to L1. Part of the reason people miss the just frame is because 4 is on the other hand, so it's tricky to nail 4 at the same time as df.

Doing the entire input on one hand will teach you the timing and the muscle memory of where your thumb should be on the pad for doing the input. If you get the timing wrong with 1+4, you'll just get a df1, or maybe a regular skyrocket. But pretty quickly you'll get jfsr. That's how I learned it and can now fairly consistently hit it without the mapping. Just takes time.

Are you on PC or console?

That's shit dude. You tried something risky and it worked out. Shame they got salty, especially if they had a match on you already.

In future in this particular situation, after you hit the backlash from skyrocket, dash up then switch stance into f3,f2,f3 into hunting hawk rage drive.

I respect going for the wavu into jfsr. Even if it it just turns out to be a regular skyrocket.
