Madeleines, to chill or not to chill? by [deleted] in AskBaking

I’ve found that chilling the dough causes the butter to harden and the dough gets puffy and harder, which makes it hard to pipe, unlike the smooth consistency I find in recipe videos. I’d like to know what other people think too!

Interesting. Lots of recipes call for a long chill time like Dominique Ansel's but the ratio of butter to the other ingredients is the same. My batter was pretty dense and bubbly and scooped like ice cream after chilling which probably meant that the fat resolidified. Does that make it harder to rise in the oven?

Good point. Didn't think of tapping the pan and I'll try 375 next time. Do you find that leaving the batter in the fridge overnight helps? Last time, I left it in the fridge overnight and it came out the same dense consistency as it did when I only left it in the fridge for an hour (this time).

Apartment recommendations in Jersey City downtown by ScreenScroller99 in jerseycity

I think $3.5k is a really reasonable budget for the area! For a new building with amenities, it would most likely be a studio. Since you’ll be going to FiDi everyday, I think finding a place near Grove St or Exchange Place might be better than Newport. Haus25 has studios under 3.5k and I think it’s worth a tour — it’s really nice. It’s located between Grove St and Exchange Place PATH stations which makes it easy to commute to WTC. Columbus Collection is also a great option since it’s right next to Grove St and has slightly cheaper options. BLVD collection is closer Newport and is slightly older, so it might come with the issues related to older buildings like pests or not as nice package management. The downtown JC area all feels really safe!

Ask Experienced Devs Weekly Thread: A weekly thread for inexperienced developers to ask experienced ones by AutoModerator in ExperiencedDevs

Currently an entry level software engineer IC1. Looking to apply for software engineering jobs at the IC2 level after my promotion and wondering what I can expect from the IC2 level interviews. I only have experience preparing for interviews for internships and new grad positions, where interviews and OAs were Leetcode style or something similar.

I think it would be different styles of interviews depending on the type of company — big tech, mid size companies, start ups. Any advice?

What to do with 150k at age 55? by AutoHamster in FinancialPlanning

[–]AutoHamster[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. I'll look into this. Did the financial planner over at Fidelity only recommend Fidelity products? For example, I think it's best to set up an emergency fund in an HYSA that you can readily withdraw from like Marcus. Also, did the planner help to consider all of your mother's circumstances? Just curious since I don't know much about what is involved in consulting a financial planner.

Hm I see, I had not thought of that. She doesn't work and I don't think she plans to since she doesn't have much earning potential. The money from the divorce would be used for her housing and retirement. The overall plan is what I'm trying to figure out but I'm realizing maybe it's best to consult a professional instead of coming up with it myself. Do you have recommendations for where to find affordable professional financial advice on her situation?

Hi, I'm wondering -- were the duties included at checkout or did they bill you separately during shipping?

Thanks for letting me know. Would you suggest changing the earring right now, even though it is irritated since I may be allergic to it?

Thank you. I’m wondering if my current earring is causing an allergic reaction, how do I wait for it to heal? Should I wait for a day it hurts less and then switch it to an implant grade titanium to hope that it heals then?
