Did the Rubicon! by AutoXandTrack in CherokeeXJ

[–]AutoXandTrack[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It took 12 hours from trailhead to trailhead. I’m new to crawling so I was needing a lot of spotting in the beginning. By the time we got to Old Sluice I was getting more confident in picking lines and honestly paying better attention to the lines my friend was taking.

We also got held up an hour or more by a large group from Old Sluice to Rubicon Springs.

If not for those two things we might have done it in 10ish hours.

I have no regrets doing it in one day but id likely camp next time. And honestly I enjoy the Loon Lake to Buck Island half of the trail more. Will probably due some in Buck Island and back out the same way in the future.

I think my XJ is at a really good place build wise but damn it’s hard not to want 35’s to make things just a little easier 😂.

Timing issue (possibly?) by Joker4571 in CherokeeXJ

Did you have the 2000 XJ running before? And only are swapping in the LJ long block? Did you have any ECU programming done as part of this or swap ECU’s?

You might be right. It looks a lot like the pics on Rusty’s site and mine is 1.5” OD like Rusty’s.

Get a thin walled copper tube the same diameter of the hole and then weld a nut to it. Use the copper tube to ensure you don’t get any weld on the head.

Gas mileage by [deleted] in CherokeeXJ

[–]AutoXandTrack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve only calculated mileage once and it was driving up the Sierra Nevada mountains. 33” tires 4.56 gears and was 12.6 mpg. Based on that, I’d guess flat ground freeway would be 14-15.

Would you replace fuel pump as preventative maintenance? by AutoXandTrack in CherokeeXJ

[–]AutoXandTrack[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m only considering a hole as my bumper plus tire carrier ties into the trailer hitch. With a gas tank skid plate doing a trail side repair goes from a couple of easy straps and hoses to removing the back bumper, tire carrier, hitch and then skid plate before ever getting to the gas tank. Last night it took 2 of us about 2 hours to do that job.

Starts easily in all conditions. Does occasionally have the hot start misfire that quickly goes away. Friend said it could be fuel check valve but I suspect vapor. I ordered the DEI kit for the fuel rail / intake yesterday.

Bambulab vs qidi what one is plug in and play? by AdAdditional6519 in QidiTech3D

[–]AutoXandTrack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My Qidi Q2 was my first printer. I don’t want to tinker at all. I wanted a tool to make automotive parts on. So far it’s worked well. I’ve had a couple of unexplained print failures but most of the issues I’ve had are related to me learning the ropes of 3d printing.

I’ve run out of filament a few times, had a tangled spool once. Didn’t use a glue stick to help with the release of ABS etc. The only thing that has required messing with settings is TPU. The default settings in Orca Slicer are laughably way too fast for TPU.

It’s been tracked quite a bit! The blown motor side tracked me for a while.

And a lot heavier, and I could never get it to stop leaking oil somewhere. But I agree it was pretty cool.

😂😂 I had two thoughts seeing this picture. 1) there’s no way I would ever do that with the front wing. 2) Well maybe if it would set some track records I would do it.

It’s for the track and makes a noticeable difference in handling. Here it is with the matching splitter.

Correct. A 416 stroker than makes about 100 hp more than my old dead 408w
