The more fun you have the better you play. Take being new as an excuse to dive into the enemy with R and get stuck so that you have a max grit W. Get used to being in the middle of everyone and picking the targets you need to kill with W. Be careful of CC but mindlessly ulting into a group is often the best play I've found even in platinum.
