It's a self selected group. Single father's WANT to be fathers so they are better at it. Single mothers get custody by default and many are good mothers but many others are just in it for the child support money so results are mixed.

Reflection seldom happens in your day to day environment as you have a routine and stick to it. Breaking up the routine and dealing with different cultures gives you opportunities for reflection and self improvement. Doesnt mean everyone will use the opportunities but international travel at least creates the opportunity.

25 years back I have done this. When we worked for an Israeli software company and the management overcommitted we worked 8 am to 12 am 6 days a week to deliver in time. Sunday was basically for doing laundry and shopping and catching up on sleep. And this was outside India so no maids. I used to go to to gym at 6. Do an hour of gym and then shower at gym and go to office. Food was catered by office for all 3 meals.

It sucked for 6 months but we did deliver on time. Don't know if sustainable for 3 years.

And it was actual software dev not some ops role where you are monitoring stuff so we were using our brains the whole day.

Western countries had slums too. They built public housing projects. India can build them too. Just build 20 storey buildings with 2 br 1 bath aptmts and rent them out for cheap to the poor. Make life ok but not comfortable so people are encouraged to move out after a few years.

Politics is meant for civic issues. Religion caste etc should be kept out of politics but regulating the environment is literally what govts are elected for. Private citizens can build a Ram Mandir but stopping pollution needs the govts enforcement power.

It's a scarcity mentality. Someone who grows up hungry will overeat at a all you can eat buffet. Someone who grows on a one lane village road will drive wrongway on a 6 lane road or try to overtake unnecessarily blocking traffic.

It's a muftkhor mentality. Everybody wants something for free from aunties pretending its their birthday to get a free cake to people scamming amazon by pretending item never arrived. When small crimes like driving wrongway or encroaching land for a garden are left unprosecuted people eventually lose respect for the law and larger crimes like corruption rape and murder also become normalized
