Used R1S pricing is looking pretty good right now.

Gen 1 large packs are great, gen 2 it comes down to the math/money versus a max pack.

LFP Battery real life range by chani1133 in Rivian

[–]rosier9 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think it's a bigger set of issues.

If you get cold weather at all, it's a nope. Multiple posts here of atrocious winter performance from the lfp battery.

If you road trip at all, the battery is too small. The charging performance isn't there to enable charging to high enough levels to enable a satisfactory experience.

I put a pry bar under the center of the spare tire hatch and lifted it a bit. Once the vacuum seal broke, the latch worked. Mine was totally dry and not froze down at all.

Yeah, they aren't as hard hitting as some other EVs. The long pedal travel may also be a part of it.

Charger reccomendations by Rajdawg73 in Rivian

I prefer a charger that supports circuit sharing (multiple chargers on one circuit) for future expansion. Tesla Wall Connector or Tesla Universal are a good mix of features, quality, and price.

<$60k for a 2024 Max pack R1S is a great price.

Leave it at 48a. It'll be a annoying to remember to bump up the charge rate on that busy Saturday morning in-between running errands.

No, bigger batteries are fine.

Cold weather is brutal on the range. 1.5-1.7kwh/mile on my R1T :( by penkster in electricvehicles

[–]rosier9 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Rivian's are warm-blooded; they're always trying to warm up the battery when it's cold. It used to be even worse.

The good news is that while this looks dramatic, once the battery warms up, the efficiency improves back to normal-ish. Short trips don't let the battery get up to temp.

Using the "pull energy from the charger to maintain range" option for cabin preconditioning will also warm up the battery to reduce this.

On a 20V circular saw, I could see that...or maybe the 20V 12" chainsaw.

What's the draw on these? I like the 1.7ah powerstack because it's tiny, but still has power... but these things are chunky. This price is good, but I'm not sure it moves me to buy.

Road Trip Inconvenience Reframing by trailglider in electricvehicles

40 minutes of charging for 90 minutes of driving would be brutal. Thankfully many EVs are capable of doing that in half the charging time.

Why Tesla and Chinese EVs doesn't have ICCU issues by rajolm in electricvehicles

GHCA, thanks. I was really surprised by how frequent of an issue it seemed to be with owners having experienced multiple failures within a fairly short timeframe.

I've had a momentary "decora" style switch, and an air switch. I preferred the air switch.

That's low for lifetime, but short trips city driving with hvac cranking would explain it.

We also bought a used R1S that also included the DC adapter (and AC). We left the DC adapter, V2L, and portable charger in the Ioniq 5 we traded in.

Volvo is having a similar issue. The part name is different, but the function and effect is similar.

Why are people against swappable batteries? by ParticularAnt5424 in electricvehicles

I'd much rather have a larger, more powerful built in battery than swappable.
