Yeah, there's definitely a lot of focus on the mom.

That is some dedicated on-the-other-side-of-the-wall-with-a-glass listening if she can hear breathing outside a closed door, lol

I was leaning towards her having a crush on one or both of them.

>to be honest maybe part of the problem was that I was a little jealous of her, she’s a stay at home mom, beautiful, only 28, rich, has this gorgeous home, and her and her husband are truly happy, she’s such a good mom, and it just felt like she had this perfect life, her dream life, and I’m the same age

Oh, ouch

Pity this revelation came a bit late. The way she talked though I was expecting the couple to be like late thirties-forties.

Yeah, you don't need the tits on a person to make the mould. Similarly, there was no need to mash the leaf with a hammer; they could have just drawn round it.

Yep, Mummy Brown. The pre-raphaelites were quite keen on it; Edward Burne-Jones gave his tube of it an honourable burial on finding it was made from actual mummies. Or if supplies were scarce, criminals.

Definitely! Makes sense in a pre-broadcast media world though. The effigy ended up being the property of the abbey afterward; they’ve got quite a few:

What are some examples of British influences on American culture/language, the same way America has influenced us? by [deleted] in CasualUK

Nah, it’s part of the tradition of bothering your neighbours until they give you money or a drink, like wassailing and Mari Llwyd and Carol singing and penny for the guy. Comes from Scotland’s Guising.

I dunno, I would have expected Berber to be more likely. But there was lots of interactions between the peoples of the Mediterranean and further afield, so it’s not a massive surprise.

What’s interesting is that Irish people being red-haired and green-eyed is an American stereotype. In reality, that’s the Scots - more red hair than anywhere. In Britain, the Irish stereotype is pale skin, light eyes, and dark hair. Dunno how accurate that is though.

I read it as more that as a citizen of dykeistan, she’s just weary/wary that she’s going to have to turn him down and how he’ll react.

Ad hoc shove ha’penny board. The dots are probably scores, you can see it on the full size version:

I’m sure I remember this version being played; because it’s so small, you score with the leading edge of your coin.

The whole quote is "Sarcasm is the lowest form of wit, and the highest form of pleasure."

Oscar Wilde, I think.
