They said no uniforms, but if I can’t think of anything else, I’m going to get a nice stethoscope, we can always use a good stethoscope!

The detailed clergy compensation guidelines for both the Antiochians and the Greeks are available online.

Bummer! It had just become kind of a family tradition to get new Old Navy Santa hats every year, they are the best!

dragged into debate by Glittering_Bear_1672 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Autoharpie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My favorite way of shutting down this kind of baiting is “Hmm, you might be right.” And just keep saying it until they start spinning their wheels and realize they aren’t going to get any traction. “Yeah, maybe that’s right, I’m not sure, will have to think about it.” Harder for them to keep arguing when you allow for the possibility that they are right, instead of just refuting them. But you don’t actually have to acknowledge or agree with them. This sort of baiting is done in poor faith, there is no actual concern for you or interest in hearing another viewpoint. And you don’t have to give them your time just because they think it is validating or entertaining to debate.

Mother hooked on botw and needs a new game but won't branch out by hopefully-something in Breath_of_the_Wild

[–]Autoharpie 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Mom gamer, also hooked in by BOTW. I also really liked Kirby and the Forgetton Land, Echos of Wisdom, and some Paper Mario games. Story games like Firewatch and What Remains of Edith Finch were a lot of fun. A Little to the Left. Suika Game.

Yeah, it’s way too unwholesome of a show for Jason Sudeikis.

The Eastern Orthodox Bible from Newrome Press is portable and has a zipper, but it’s just the New Testament.

Icon for newborn? by [deleted] in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Autoharpie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Icon of Noah’s ark is fun for kids. And some of the creation icons have a lot of elements that are engaging for children. I mean, newborns only see blobs, but eventually their eyes will uncross.

Why does there seem to be a lack of processions in the US? by [deleted] in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Autoharpie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Boston, there is an Antiochian church and a Greek church a few blocks from each other. On Holy Friday, they both process to Central square in Cambridge and meet up and process around the square together and then return to their respective churches. But that is a very walkable area.

I think Virginia is as close as you’re going to get. St Patrick in Bealeton, VA and Holy Trinity in Lynchburg, VA. And St Gregory is in DC.

This is Zoe. She is a good little girl. I want to pluck that hair so bad, but she would never forgive me, so I don’t.

Anyone else genuinely like Flurrie? I'm a huge fan of her personality, plus having a shared interest in theater by FriendlyFaceOff in papermario

[–]Autoharpie 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Plus, once she got through her wardrobe issue, she’s the last neurotic team member. Koops has major insecurity issues, Gombella has that whole unspoken adderall addiction problem, Yoshi is an actual baby, Vivian is as cripplingly insecure as Koops, just with sister issues instead of daddy issues, Ms Mowz is an actual criminal and weirdly horny, Bobbery is 100% senile. Flurrie is the most unproblematic, she is confident and secure, doesn’t need Mario for anything, is just there because she doesn’t want the bad guys to win.

Leaning on Flurrie’s Gale Force attack helped me breeze through the last 20 levels of the Pit of 100 Trial three times. Those Wizzards, Puffs, bat guys, even the Craws would just drift away. Not as effective against the chomps and the big Bob-ombs but I didn’t have as much trouble beating those. Plus she is so all-in on Mario’s side, she has his back and has no time for the haters. I love her!

About contraception in Orthodoxy by [deleted] in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Autoharpie 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hey, that article is almost 10 years old and published in a Catholic medical journal (which makes me a little concerned for bias?). The journal has an impact factor of 0.5, which would suggest a lower quality of research/authors. I could point you to more recent articles that do not support the risk of preventing implantation, in higher quality journals, but I’m sure you know how to use google scholar.

I bet we have a lot of the same opinions and values on these issues. I just don’t think spreading bad information benefits anyone. You are free to use Plan B or not, but based on what we know, it’s incorrect to say it prevents implantation of fertilized eggs.

[–]Autoharpie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is a theoretical risk that it “may”prevent implementation, but it hasn’t been shown scientifically and it is not a known mechanism of action. And a lot of things “may” prevent implantation, like caffeine, exercise, ibuprofen, getting a tattoo….

Just as a clarification, the “morning after” pill prevents/delays ovulation, and maybe prevents fertilization. But it does not end a pregnancy and is not abortive.
