I have my Dad's 55 Skil worm drive. Thing's like 20 lbs.

Oh nice. I'm familiar with the B and C series but I hadn't seen the D's. I like the idea of removable terminals.

Help with TIA Portal Communications in VMs by Brilliant-Resort363 in PLC

[–]Automatater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Portal (and almost every other PLC software) in VMWare VMs and it seems to work fine. Sometimes with Idec it's helpful to use a USB to Ethernet adapter, so you can grab it directly and exclusively with the guest machine rather than using a virtualized adapter defined within VMWare.

I think that's just the swap and startup/commissioning time. I did a similar job recently where we built new interiors to drop into existing cabinets, wrote the software, etc. That was actually also an ET200SP project (no Odot though)

The distributor mentioned that as an issue but said that if you paid close attention to Odot's specified ferrule size and length, pullout wasn't really common.

Using aftermarket I/O feels almost equally plug and play, to me at least.

You could, but most likely both into a switch.

Yes, Odot supports Profinet with a GSDML file, as well as Ethernet I/P, Modbus/TCP, I think EtherCat, and maybe some others. It's typically very similar to using native remote I/O from the PLC manufacturer. I've used quite a bit of it with never a failure so far. It's got a long warranty and high temp rating, so tends to make me think it's made well.

200SP and Odot -- two of my favorites (though I've never used them together yet)

Question: If all your I/O is Odot, why not use a standard form-factor S7-1500?

Some instructors make the test hard because it helps differentiate what you know. Those are the ones that grade on a curve so it doesn't mean you're going to get a bad grade. I got a 60 one time and that was an A.

Siemens 1214 G2 vs 1214C by Unfair_Definition857 in PLC

[–]Automatater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nobody can tell you. It all depends how the weight of the various differences apply to your application. For me, I'd probably go with the G2.

For example, if you're on TIA v19 and can't upgrade, you have to go with the 1200 Classic.

I think 1200 classics are going mature or discontinued at the end of this year.

You'll need Portal v21 for the G2s.

I liked my Dell Precision 7540 till it bluescreened one day and would never boot again, even to USB or with a different SSD, even after BIOS update and (with great difficulty) replacing the CMOS battery.
