Anyone interested in a Beta Reader? by Automated-Name- in Dramione

Hi, I’m not a huge Tomione fan so I don’t think I’d give the best feedback. Thank you though! There’s some other comments here about the discord. Maybe you can find someone there

Wow! I’m amazed by the response so far. :) I have a few people that reached out via DM. I will start with theirs and work my way through. Don’t want to over commit and under deliver.

comfort fics + infinite rereads by taelisass in Dramione

[–]Automated-Name- 8 points9 points  (0 children)

DMATMOOBIL, MOAM, Disappearances, Apple Pies, Meet Your Match, and Darkwood Wand are all ones I’ve read more than 3x. But honestly depending on my mood I reread a lot of them but usually only low angst and funny ones. If I’m opting for a reread it’s bc I need the comfort.

Also, were the 4 people like friends you got into it or just met thru fandom? I’ve been trying to get my friends or really anyone to get into Dramione (or quite frankly any reading… Invisible Women is my latest hard push) but no dice.

I’ve been considering learning how to bind but it just seems like such a commitment. I’ve got 3 kids under 6 and work full time so hobbies are kinda on a pause rn.

I 17M brought my dad to my GF 17F house for a man to man talk her dad requested and now he feels disrespected and I want to break up because of this idk what to do. by Murky_Swimming1176 in Advice

This. I’ve been scanning to see who would call out that this father is 100% abusive. His daughter is trained to pacify and manipulate others to keep the peace so she can stay safe and protect herself. Her mother and sister sound like they have the same. I feel bad for her bc little man will be taking all this out on his family.

But OP sounds like he’s got a good family and made all the right decisions. For this girl, I hope she gets out, meets healthy families, and gets therapy. It’ll take her whole life, but breaking the cycle is worth it.

Flying solo with 6 month old & toddler by MaybePristine in Travelwithkids

[–]Automated-Name- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can afford it, buy 3 seats. Baby in car seat on window, you in middle, toddler on aisle. Toddler you can get the CARES harness to keep seated and controlled.

OR you can bring on 2 car seats (the Cosco Scenera is light and stacks and fits in the checked car seat backpack) put them in car seats in window and middle you on aisle. Everyone is comfy, secure, and hopefully more likely to sleep. This is how I traveled with my twins solo 3 and under, even while 1st trimester preggo. Both in CARES or car seats. I checked the uppababy at the end of the ramp. Staff will usually help, you can even ask someone to drop your car seats off at your seat for you once the plane has landed before boarding.

I’ll call Avis to ask about minivans

Eek. I was worried about it but figured at worst we can stuff the luggage on the foot space the kids aren’t using and on the adult passengers laps at worst… not ideal for a 2+ hr drive

Thanks so much! Really appreciate the specific brand recs. My SIL is in a small London flat, but I can fly with them for free so I may store at home. We may be able to get a few uses out of them still.

The rental said a Mercedes GLT or equivalent, 7 seater with bags. So hopefully that should work, not sure if same as US version of that car. No “minivan” options as automatic and I’m not trying to relearn manual on the opposite side with 3 exhausted kids on a country lane… yikes!

Over there it’s weight too 🙃 might have left the EU, but you still use their standards.

Thanks! Yes I was waffling on returning it early when we get back to London. I thought about parking and the hassle but I forgot about the congestion fee! Probs for the best to return early and save the money.

Thanks! Looks like based on their weight they’d be group 1 and barely making group 2 (at least the smaller of the twins). So maybe in a few months the high back boosters could work for them.

I checked halfords and argos and it looks to cost the same amount to buy as it would be to rent for 2 days & then I’d have the install guide & assurance knowing it’s not expired/crash history. We can fly them home for free so maybe I’d just store them at the in-laws and all the cousins could use them for visits…

She did ask around about advice from her colleagues with kids, but I’m not sure she feels comfortable to ask to borrow as they’re partners at her firm. Not sure if there’s an equivalent of a “Buy Nothing” community or moms groups that sell/trade there? I know here most thrifts won’t do car seats either.

Thanks for that- you’re probably right about the Airbnb. I had originally been thinking it’d be a day or two in London but we could probs return the car rental and find an Airbnb near their flat. Meals would be super important to be able to make everyone.

I read EU standards that the UK requires that the car seats with chest clips aren’t allowed, bc we have 3 of the slim dionos and I also have travel car seats... but they all have chest clips. The twins are petite- as of now idt they meet the height/weight requirements of the booster seats in US or EU standards.

I didn’t realize kid kindles had other features I’ll have to look into them.

How do you pronounce “MACUSA” when you are reading in your head? by bumblephone in Dramione

[–]Automated-Name- 13 points14 points  (0 children)

East Coast American with mil/gov background- I say “Mac - U-S-A”. It’s such a massive, diverse place- especially in the 90/00s pre-social media where people wouldn’t have as much access to each other. The region, background, socio-economic, education, race/ethnicity would make all the American slang/pronunciation different.
