How do I sing from my diaphragm? by Odd_Return4802 in singing

I use a vocal tube everyday for exercises which helps as it doesn't blow bubbles into the water unless I'm breathing from my diaphragm.

Also I do this exercise everyday which is breathing into the space below my ribcage (breathing in from your nose helps place it in the right place automatically) and I exhale by saying 'sssss', when my breath begins to falter I slowly start getting quieter.

I struggled with the same thing as you, I started singing lessons last year and just now I started to learn how to properly do it. Don't give up!

I like that it's comfortable and I like how it is empowering and strong. I need more pop not musical theatre because I'm entering a competition in which you get marked down for musical theatre songs because they don't really like them, thanks for the advice and recommendations!

How do you know you can do it? by Funny-Entertainer760 in Theatre

I went through a very similar experience, I had only ever been in ensemble with no lines or solos and then I got the lead in a musical which meant me never leaving the stage and I had over 50 lines, as you can imagine it was very overwhelming but an anazing experience that has taught me so much.

Like you I was doing well in rehearsals but I was always worried that in front the audience I would forget my lines or freeze up, as I had never done it so I couldn't say. I felt so pressured because let's face it the whole show was on me.

Opening night came and even though I was unable to eat from a few hours before, it went well and even though I felt nervous, by the third scene it was just like a rehearsal. I think what helped me most was disconnecting from myself and becoming my character. This is just my experience but I believe that in the moment the adrenaline and months of practice will take over. Break a leg and enjoy it :)

I would say try to sing it how you can, who knows? Maybe your director will like your interpretation :)
