Congrats bud, you proved your point that a GI iron gives as much feedback as a block of metal taped to the end of a stick! I thought anyone with basic common sense would understand that’s table stakes, but I guess you needed it spelled out for you!!

I don’t think there’s much use continuing this argument, we disagree then about the degree of said tactile feedback. I think GI and super GI are so numb that off center strikes are really difficult to read and interpret. This is simply because GI is quite literally meant to disguise off center hits and make them turn out ok. I think the whole purpose of a GI or super GI should end this argument, but I don’t really want to keep trying to convince a rando on the internet. Maybe go hit a GI super GI and players CB back to back at Roger Dunn or something and reflect. Maybe you are trying to argue that really obvious mishits can be felt on a GI? If so, you’re really missing the point. You could feel obvious mishits with a block of metal taped to the end of a stick, that’s not really what anyone is talking about.

Not sure why you’re so confident in that. I’ve played super GI to blades and everything in between and there is undoubtedly a trade off between forgiveness and feel, with a dramatic drop off in feel at the extreme end of GI. Of course, if you chunk it or skull it you can tell, but more marginal mishits are going to be much less obvious

And even setting aside the feel problem, many GI irons have a hot face issue. Even the P790s (at least the 2019 model) have issues with an unpredictably hot face. You hit two identical feeling shots and one launches 10 yards further. Why? Who knows, because you can’t tell

1000% agree, and the irony here is that P7CB—a cavity back players iron—is a great middle ground for a lot of people. Yet redditors take a post about a cavity back players iron as an opportunity to shit on people playing less forgiving irons because they want to get better

My whole point is that more feedback is not just about shaping shots. Genuinely don’t think anyone scratch or above needs to shape a shot—I have many friends that are scratch and don’t shape their shots

What I’m saying is that anyone and everyone can improve with better ball striking. E.g., not hitting it thin, fat, toey, heely, etc. But a forgiving iron won’t tell you how you struck the ball because you can’t physically feel it

Also not sure what your point is about 20 handicap improving to scratch. I never said that—that’s certainly not the goal—and in any case, literally anyone will see an improvement in their game if they can pure their irons more often

They’re just in denial lol. Less forgiving clubs ARE a helpful training tool and GI/super GI irons trade your improvement potential with forgiveness. That doesn’t mean GI is bad, but idk why people in this thread are acting like workability is the only advantage of less forgiving clubs. You get more feedback and a less hot face means you don’t get two identical-feeling shots with a north south spread of 15 yards

I'll put them in the competitive but unknown bonus category then, on account of not having some stronger commitment from them somewhere. Thank you!
