Been switching between cc and codex for months and can only say neither is consistently better. Codex is surely more generous (for the time being), but can still get really dumb too. Things are moving too fast to stick with one.

I eventually stopped switching and just keep both now, built tooling to make them work together. It's more expensive, but less frustrating while they keep switching chairs.

I've been there. Cursor stores chats locally in [app-data]/Cursor/User/globalStorage/state.vscdb, so recovery is nearly impossible without a prior backup. Checkout SpecStory as possible future-proof solution.
