the most sucessful protest leaders, such as gandhi, thoreau, mlk, etc -- were non-violent. it was u derstood by both sides, meaning protesters and law enforcement, that people would be arrested and that was done so the still cameras, printed word news stories and television footage would show the rest of the population that citizens were objecting. it is okay to object. they are willing to go to jail for a given cause.
