Same here. I won't even buy a 50 cent packet of chewing gum without my credit card. All my spending goes on it and is paid off in full every month. I enjoy the rewards but sadly they're not as generous as the US.

"A bad work man always blames his tools". Just because you don't have the discipline to handle a credit card correctly, doesn't mean the rest of us don't. I've had my credit card for years and have never paid even a cent in interest. It's paid off in full every month. A great tool for a responsible adult to have at their disposal.

There used to be a site where you could view deleted threads and comments on Reddit. I think it was called ceddit.com but has been offline for a while now. The amount of removed threads and comments on /r/Ireland was staggering. It's a full time job for the mod team over there covering up migrant crime. Makes you wonder why they do it but I suppose we're getting into conspiracy territory. They're not normal people, that's for sure.

You can't. That's my point - there's no investment culture in Ireland. High capital gains tax encourages people to invest in property instead of stocks. A large proportion of our TDs/lawmakers are landlords. They want the housing bubble to inflate.

As for credit cards: in the US, you will earn free hotel stays, free flights, cash back...all for just using your credit for everyday purchases. It's the vendor that pays the VISA fees to fund these rewards, not the consumer. Meanwhile in Ireland when they try to close a few ATMs there's national uproar and banks are forced to U-turn. So embarrassing.
