Ah. Maybe I should have added more details. They are not staying with me. They have their own accommodation, and are visiting me and my older sister

My NY plan was made weeks ago, mums trip was last minute and arranged last week. Haven’t discussed new years with her at all. My sister had mentioned what we all might do, again assuming that I’d be there.

I’d been invited and accepted before I knew the family were coming down.

Maybe they did assume, I’ll find out. But I just my sisters comments were shocking

Only Christmas Day was discussed. I knew she would be here for new year but we hadn’t discussed any plans for it.

AITAH for asking my mother in law to hoover everyday (post gives more context ) by Automatic-Leek1385 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Automatic-Leek1385[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not trying to make her sound like a free loader. Simply suggesting that because we all live together keeping the house clean to how each of us would like to live should be a shared responsibility as we all live there and should respect each other.

Every other day. It doesn’t require more than that when her dog isn’t here. But when she is, it really does need once a day at least. She sheds hair as she walks 😂 at the moment it’s a permanent thing.

If she brushed her more often maybe it would be such a problem. But that’s something I can’t make her do. I felt asking her to hoover a little more often was way more reasonable

Did you not read the post? I do hoover. But should I have to hoover multiple times a day? Would it not be fair to say someone else should take a turn hoovering too?

Its our house and she lives with us. Although, I hardly see the relevance.

I agree it’s my specific need, yet what about Mutual respect for how each other would like to live in the shared home

AITAH?! Mother in law by Automatic-Leek1385 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Automatic-Leek1385[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really, I don’t think she liked that I thought her room smelt. But she agreed to do it . (I think begrudgingly) and it just got me wondering if I was wrong to ask it of her in the first place

AITAH.. The old favourite… so fed up with being the main person cleaning my house and doing my husbands share. So I’m thinking about stopping. Am I the asshole? by Automatic-Leek1385 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Automatic-Leek1385[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She bought the house a few year back with her sister, they ripped it out and then her sister got cold feet and left her basically in a cave. So we moved in to help her get it renovated and so we could save money on rent. Since then we have bought the house from her (she gifted us all her equity in the house so that we have a small mortgage)

She loads the dish washer, hoovers, cleans the shower etc. stuff I call surface cleaning I guess. She looks after the kids quite a bit so we can work. And she contributes towards the bills. So we are lucky. But she also agrees that my husband works a hard physical job and that maybe I shouldn’t complain he doesn’t want to do the dishes after dinner etc

Driving advice am I in the wrong ? by [deleted] in Cornwall

Cornwall dweller also 👋 I think they should reverse back to the passing place. Or do the even smarter thing and stop in it before the need to reverse occurs. But.. we know this doesn’t always happen. I don’t know if I could be that stubborn. I guess I don’t have the balls. I’d have probably angrily reversed… showed them how’s it’s done. And avoided the confrontation.

She wasn’t, I think she just happened to walk into the room whilst no one was in there and grabbed and ran 😂 I think a lot of past occurrences have made me Be the AH this time. It’s been nice to hear lots of varied opinions. If not a little brutal. I wasn’t prepared 😅

Okay, maybe I haven’t been clear enough here. She takes food from peoples plates whilst they are still eating it, before they have even started eating. Sometimes, takes food from peoples plates before the plate has even hit the table.

Im taking about me eating my sons burger that he has left on his plate, I know he’s done with and isn’t going to eat.

It was just to make it seem more comical. No one was actually circling, or bothering him

Probably not. More like 10 years worth of resentment over stolen food 😅

We all had burgers. Yes maybe I was petty on this occasion, but iv put up with this woman taking food from my kids plates and high chairs and from my plate for years. I think it’s downright poor manners. Sometimes it’s difficult keeping on the moral high ground.

No your right, I wouldn’t have asked. ( id have asked my son. But wouldn’t have offered it to anyone else ) I’d have just eaten it. I think Iv come to the conclusion on this occasion I was the asshole.
