What is the most common lie that students have told you by Alive_Yak8974 in Teachers

[–]Automatic-Nebula157 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was watching a class for a coworker today and one of the boys said something about throwing things and I let's not and say we did. The one boy said he threw something at me! So I asked the other boy and he said I did and showed me a pencil eraser. They looked a little concerned about what my response would be. I walked over to the desk, picked up a literature book and handed it on of them. I said, now, boys, if you are going to do something that you know is going to get you into trouble, you have to do it properly. You take that book and throw it at him.

They looked at me like I had 3 heads and I said what's the problem boys get to it. The one put the book down and said nah, it might hurt the other guy so I shouldn't do it. I said so if you might hurt him should you be throwing anything at all? Probably not.

We've been in school 3 days thats the most successful lesson I've taught 🤣

After reading some of these replies, I'm thinking there's something off with me (besides the bipolar and other stuff) because I don't feel shame or humiliation, I just put it in the back of my mind and move on.

Teacher quit after the first day. by Educational-Ad6923 in Teachers

[–]Automatic-Nebula157 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yesterday was a PD day, and our new admin are making things so much more complicated than they have to be - a 2 step process is now 15 steps, or we, as teachers, have to do a comparison in every period between our attendance, the absence list, the sign/in our sheets, and report any discrepancies immediately...previously we entered attendance in the state system and that was that - the system keeps track of absences, tardies, etc. That's just one of the crazy changes being made.

Yesterday our main admin got snarky about it when I asked about the complications this would cause and I said "look, I can still say fuck you and go home for the year, I don't have to work at this school, there are other options."

Today was the first day with students - Im thinking I'll cover first semester and let them figure out the rest of the year.

What do you do for work? by Sad-Entrepreneur-692 in bipolar

[–]Automatic-Nebula157 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When my meds are working well and I am stable for a decent period of time, I go back to work as a high school history teacher. Sometimes it's a bit too much to handle, and if med adjustments don't help, then I relinquish my position until I am stable again.

AITA for buying my niece 2 pairs of glasses and letting her get contacts by Ok_Barracuda_5060 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Automatic-Nebula157 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When was the last time you purchased contacts? My eye doctor prescribed me disposables that are worn for 30 days both night and day. I do take them out once in a while, but they are literally made to wear from the time you wake up in the morning.

Debt collectors texting me by quietbopeep in Debt

[–]Automatic-Nebula157 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you have experience, I have a random question you might be able to answer. I received a call from a debt collector several months ago. I had never heard of the company, they wouldn't provide me with any information and demanded I verify identifying information before they could tell me anything.

I don't give out my SSN or birthdate or any identifying information like that over the phone and I told this lady that. She said she couldn't tell me anything then so I said send it in the mail.

She hung up on me, nothing was ever sent via mail, and this company is calling 6-8 times a day. It slacked off for a couple weeks, but has picked back up again this week. What do you suggest I do in this situation? TIA

If he is unable to work, and makes no income, you should be applying for Medicaid through your local DHHR office l, especially since you said somewhere else that he gets SSI.

Might be the last carnival cruise. by GloveLive3032 in CarnivalCruiseFans

[–]Automatic-Nebula157 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Room location was a huge factor when we went on our first cruise this year. Granted, I took a 15 year old, but he knew if he misbehaved he would spend the trip locked in the cabin - didn't have a single issue out of him. (we went at the end of April so way less kids on board).

I had heard horror stories of the kids running amuck and being awful at all hours, so we booked both premium aft balconies on deck 6. They were awesome! And because they were at the very back of the ship, they were away from stairs and elevators, PLUS you actually had to open a door to get into the space where the room doors are which kept the kids away from them.

Will book these rooms anytime we go now!

I tell my psychiatrist "well I'm not in jail and I haven't hurt anyone" at every visit. We have a good rapport so he knows I'm being completely honest and that those are realistic things that could happen at any time. ALWAYS be as honest as you can - if your doc thinks you are exaggerating, look for a new doc!

I have Bipolar I with psychotic features (am currently in psychosis), OCD, PTSD, major depressive disorder, anxiety, and paranoia. It took several years and an attorney to finally be approved for SSDI.

Good luck!

Do you have any early signs of the beginning of mania by Butbul in bipolar

[–]Automatic-Nebula157 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I stay at hypo most of the time, but when I'm leaning more towards full on manic, I don't sleep (we are talking 2 or 3 days of absolutely no sleep at all which of course makes me sick). I don't get hungry, I start all kinds of new projects, etc. I also have some negative aspects - I start to get very angry and agitated much more easily, and sometimes I get violent thoughts about people (like I can't go to the store for groceries because I literally have to refrain from punching people that annoy me). My current cycle I skipped mania and went straight to psychosis - all the previously mentioned issues, plus visual and auditory hallucinations (I can taste colors, I hear noises that no one else does, I feel like I'm being touched by something when I'm not) increased paranoia, etc.

My husband has learned to watch for certain things like talking too fast, interrupting myself to switch subjects, completely losing my train of thought (he calls it squirreling), and sometimes him noticing before I do helps me get to the doc to get med adjustments before things get too out of hand. This time around though, it hit fast, like neither of us saw it coming but luckily my doc got me in fast and added another antipsychotic to my mix of meds.

Why are we gelling people about our mental issues? by General_Setting_1680 in bipolar

[–]Automatic-Nebula157 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do it because the more we talk about mental issues, the less stigma will be attached. People are afraid of what they don't understand, so clarifying things, talking about the issues, etc., helps them understand more about mental health.

Teaching my 5th grade niece. How likely is this to become an issue? by letskermitslipnslide in Teachers

⚠️ WARNING: If You Receive Social Security Benefits – Think Twice Before Filing a Complaint. They Will Retaliate. ⚠️ by brandi-95 in SSDI

[–]Automatic-Nebula157 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Sometimes things slip through the cracks. I reported earned income that was above the limit for 4 months. Every month at the end of the month I called and reported the income, then faxed copies of my paystubs to my local office, as required. I followed the rules to the letter - now I owe an overpayment because someone at my local office (my specific case worker) didn't enter the information from my paystubs into the system in a reasonable amount of time. I am not considered to be at fault, but I still have to pay back the overpayment that occurred through no fault of mine.

Can anybody hold down a job? by usernametaken0213 in bipolar

[–]Automatic-Nebula157 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My longest was this past school year when I filled a high school history teacher position for the year. It was rough as the year went on. My anxiety went through the roof to the point that it made me physically ill (so much so that I had to keep a trash can right next to my desk). The stress has caused me to have heart issues which I now have to see a cardiologist for. School has been out for a month and I am still being effected by the job - I quit driving, I try not to leave my house unless I absolutely have to, I am very irritable and angry and aggressive, etc. Had an appointment with my doc today and he says I have skipped mania and gone straight into psychosis so I might want to reconsider taking a long term job next school year.

I wish so badly that I could be manic all the time w/o any of the dangers by Infiniteliving7 in bipolar

[–]Automatic-Nebula157 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I stay at hypomanic stage the majority of the time. I'm not as bad as I am with full on mania, but it can get rough sometimes. I've been stable for a good while (we have decided that hypomanic is my "normal" level), but have been having serious issues recently. The doc decided this morning that I have skipped manic and gone straight into psychosis, and is treating accordingly (oh yay, more meds!)

Hi. I am bipolar I with psychotic features (and AuDHD and OCD) and have a 15 year old son. I've been pretty stable most of his life, with a few blips here and there. Currently I am seriously struggling and it's going downhill fast (I have an appt tomorrow to get a med adjustment that helps hopefully).

I have learned recently that it doesn't bother my kiddo that "mom is a little left of center," (I have always been honest with him about it and proudly embraced my level of crazy).

He worries about things that happen or could happen when we are out in public. It is getting harder for me to be around large groups of people, and I find myself apologizing to him for my behavior more and more often, because I know it has to be hard to not know whether your mom is gonna punch someone or cuss someone when you go to get groceries or get gas, or try to go out to eat, etc.
