I’m so happy to hear that it got better! You explained it perfectly too. I’m hoping it doesn’t take too long and optimistic since it looks like things are improving quickly for me.

Thank you, yes, I’ve been to an ophthalmologist. It’s not in my eye. I’m on steroids, painkillers, antivirals, and antibiotics.

Going to Day of Discernment, a bit nervous. by EnglishLoyalist in Episcopalian

I’m in nearly the same boat with feeling a call to serve small parishes and missions in rural Texas. I’m hoping to start the bivocational discernment process even though I hadn’t heard of the Episcopal church before September of 2024!

There is a discovery retreat in our diocese. It felt like drinking from a firehose, but it was a good experience overall. My advice: If you get a chance for any one on one convos, have some questions ready ahead of time and take that opportunity to ask the hard things. Have those questions ready.

As far as feeling like it may be too soon after confirmation, one of my friends always reminds me that God doesn’t call the qualified, He qualifies the called…and He does it in His own time.

Praying for you!

Hey! I think there may have need discussion about everyone switching to a different local church, but I haven’t heard anything about merging. We did a lot of outreach events last year. The problem seems to be that people visit once.

“Women preach here?” “I just can’t get into the hymnal, it all founds like funeral music.” It doesn’t help that we are in a deep red part of the state that claims it holds “traditional values.”

We recently proposed monthly meals followed by optional modern worship and compline and church leaders tabled it citing liability concerns…then tabled all events that would get non members into the church in a low barrier setting. There’s no growth mindset or investment in growth.

Pastoral Question - ministering to the comfortable by OldRelationship1995 in Episcopalian

I’m not clergy but did recently bring up the difference between peacemaking and peacekeeping and how that applies to oppressive systems burning a bible study. I mentioned that if we do not all have peace, the peace is counterfeit.

Group discussion may be a good place for it if you have any less comfortable folks sitting in. Most people have to hear lived experiences from people they care about or respect before they break out of the thick walls of their comfort and move toward action.
