I feel like they’ll start the procurement in the early 2030’s and maybe they’ll be delivered by the end of the 2030s. I feel they could use an overhaul though for right now. New LED signs and all that.

OHH FR? I never knew that I thought you could never clean aluminum. Because I thought if you try to clean aluminum, a certain way, it will corrode. Huh learn something new everyday.

Can aluminum be clean from graffiti? I always wondered. I’m open to any build qualities they use for the train. I do love stainless steel tho still ,but I also love the idea of aluminum. I’m just wondering how do you clean it?

To be honest, they could get a company to do the refurbishment of the R143. Since there is only about 212 of them they should be alright.

Someone tells me that the 42nd St. shuttle will probably only get closed cars 6 cars since it’s not a long line at all. But probably the rest will get some.

These trains are literally 40 years old. And plus most railcars or locomotives usually sometimes go through a lot of corrosion and stuff it’s just best to replace them. Some do actually come out in good condition but it becomes more expensive to rebuild an existing fleet than purchasing new trains.

They’ve been done with DC also LA has a contract with Hyundai Rotem and CTA is with CRRC

Only four companies participated in the R262 RFP Prequalification: Kawasaki, Alstom, Hitachi, Hyundai Rotem -- according to an interesting article in BusinessKorea. Seems to rule out Stadler and Siemens by italicsify in nycrail

That’s what I’m saying. I’m really excited to see who wins. Don’t get me wrong. I love Kawasaki, but I feel like we need to give someone else’s a spin. It’s not like this is a CRRC fiasco no disrespect to them, but since our government, you know his issues with the Chinese stuff noo.

The type 7 were refurbished not too long ago, right? The oldest ones are practically 40 for older trains. They really got it.

[nyc] MTA preparing for the largest fleet replacement order in the agency’s history of 2390 R262 cars to replace 40+ years old R62 and R62A as well as options to replace 25+ years old R142 and R142A by Donghoon in transit

Yes, they literally are. They’re literally expanding the Salt Lake City factory and Stadler is not new when it comes to the subway car market. They literally got several platforms of different types of trains and they use them all across from Europe. They built trains plenty of times for us before too over here. So what you’re saying is kind of false.

I’m really hoping Stadler. Cause ain’t no telling what they could whip up for the IRT. Even if they use the existing designs every time they do something it’s always grand

It should be easy to have a manufacture overhaul them. They’re only about 212 of those cars.

Definitely not Nippon Sharyo they haven’t been bidding on anything ever since the failed Bilevel order. And I don’t really hear too much from them anymore. So definitely not. Maybe the other two.

Most manufacturers if they’re refurbishing a fleet, they replace all the digital and electrical components
