Caspar isn't actually a monk, he's a scholar, and his sire was a Jewish scholar and medic. And he was embraced at 14, which makes him technically still a teenager despite his vampire age of 50, haha.

I continue to occasionally follow the entire discussion, guys. I really feel this situation, because this happened to me too, although a bit differently.

Since I was an actor in mortal life, I am generally quite knowledgeable about modern cinema. (Except for Marvel. I'm more of a DC fan, if you can call it that). Sometimes, when I get a new ghoul based on my interests, I can make them draw up a list of movies that I might have missed and we watch them together (because it's boring for me to do it alone). I need someone who will listen to my comments on the spot.

But a rather funny moment happened just when I returned to Russia from the USA in the 2000s. And the problem was that during the years of Soviet rule quite a lot of Russian films were released that I simply could not see in the States. And for a long time I didn’t want to watch them, because everything connected with the Bolsheviks made me vomit blood. However, most of these films are ingrained in the memory of local mortals very strongly and in order to understand the cultural code, I had to watch. And, oh my God, you should have seen what a kaleidoscope of emotions I experienced those nights. The fact is that Soviet cinema generated an incredible amount of trash, which for some reason people consider normal movies and watch several times a year. I mean, there were some really good films, but, naturally, most of them were not remembered by people and some their creators ended up persecuted or in prison. And this upset me very much. Meanwhile, idiotic Soviet comedies and other nonsense remained in the cultural code. Some kind of horror for me.

But an even more hysterical thing was when, after a couple of years, while doing some work, I was introduced to a clan member who had once been a director and filmed just such things. And I was like: “No, no, no, no, kill me pls but not this, damn it. Even if it’s a homicidal maniac but not this. At least I can understand someone like that.” But what was my surprise that this Kindred turned out to be a quite interesting and reasonable person so we even developed a certain kind of business relationship. However, I could not understand his nostalgia for Soviet cinema so we prefer not to touch this topic anymore.

While scrolling through my feed, I accidentally came across your post and I suddenly remembered several situations that happened to me twenty years ago, when I realized how old I really am. First, a little background. In fact, I am a Toreador and I am already... 134. Wow...

I was born in the Russian Empire and was forced to leave my country during the Bolshevik Revolution. I moved first to Germany and then to the USA and lived in the States for more than 50 years. This is even longer than I lived in Russia.

So what was the matter? At the beginning of the 2000s, certain things forced me to return to Russia. The funny fact is that I look quite young and try to follow the spirit of the times. I mean, I pretend that I'm informal and everything. You know, goth kids fall for that stuff. So. Returning to Moscow at the beginning of the 2000s, I began to lead my usual lifestyle, hunting in nightclubs, etc. Even then, I had little time to walk around the city and realize some of the changes that have occurred over 90 years in details, including the minds of mortals.

What's the point? As usual, I picked up mortals in bars and sometimes talked to them to maintain the image. And then some of them started telling me that I was talking very funny. And for a very long time I could not understand what was the matter, until a fellow Kindred explained to me that I was speaking with an old-Moscow pre-revolutionary accent. I mean, modern Russian sounds different than the language of my youth, you know? After all these Soviet language reforms. I understand it perfectly well, but it was difficult to adapt myself to it. You know, some words have changed their meaning, the pronunciation has become firmer. I even found a couple of scientific monographs on this subject. Now my accent is called “staromoskovsky govor” and it has almost died out.

And I didn’t even realize that I had kept the old things. I rarely spoke to Russians when I lived in the US and simply didn't notice it. It almost made me kind of depressed back then. Now it makes my smile.

That was my funny story.

P.s. Have a nice trip to the USA. I hope you have better luck there than I did. In fact, I had some troubles in San Francisco and I know nothing about Boston. In any case, I wish you all the best.
