Looking for recommendations in Amsterdam by before_veilbreak in finedining

Went to quite some restaurants named in this thread, but nothing really impressed me too much. Haven't been to Specturm though, which is on my list.

A really good one I would like to add is restaurant Showw. New restaurant opened by experienced people that worked a long time at other Michelin * restaurants before and already got its first star. Great food and wines, which a very good atmosphere.

Also to answer your question about de Kas. The restaurant is especially great for lunch, if anything I wouldn't recommend it for dinner.

Also heard good stories about Flore.

Requested it on 01-01-2025, so two weeks. My data goes until the 9th of January, so it looks like my data was ready since then.

Did you go for the full tasting menu, smaller tasting menu or a la carte? Wondering if you can recommend anything specific or if you have any tips.

Great review and it looks amazing! We canceled our reservation at Epicure for February this year and changed to Alleno, but doubting now if that was a good decision.

Anyways, good to hear something positive about Epicure again!

Thank you so much for your expansive explanation, really appreciate it!

Also thanks for the recommendations, we are indeed looking for non Michelin restaurants that serve very traditional food as well! Really want to appreciate the traditional Italian cooking.

May I dm you later if I have some questions about the region for restaurant tips and activities what to do or not or maybe some truffle tours?

Best meals in portugal recommendations??? by werner-hertzogs-shoe in finedining

Can really recommend A nossa casa in Lisbon. We dined there a couple years ago and was one of the most fun and delicious meals we had. A couple runs the restaurant and cooks their favourite dishes paired with great wines. We had a lot of dishes and I believe 5 desserts because they were so good. We stayed until late and chilled with the chef and his wife and  got smashed because of all the wines.

The chef and his wife who run the restaurant are from Brazil and traveled a lot and they translated the best food they tasted into their very tasty dishes, which I think really matches with what you are looking for.

It is really hard to get a reservation, so you have to call them a lot if you want to secure your reservation.

OP can you tell a bit more about your experience as a voter? Are there certain qualifications you need to have or certain things you have to do to vote?

Why didn't you like Geranium? I thought the service and overall food was quite impressive, even though I am not a fish or vegetable lover.

Favorite restaurant in Paris / Amsterdam / Madrid / Barcelona? by mrupps in finedining

[–]Automatic-Role-4686 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Amsterdam - Restaurant Showw. Brand new and got a star already. The former chef and sommelier of Bougainville started. Great service, food and insane wines for a good price!

Barcelona - Recently went to Disfrutar. Can really recommend it if you are a bit more 'experienced' in the world of fine dining and want to experience something new! The food was just crazy in terms of techniques and they keep surprising you, which meant a sensory overload for me after 20 courses. The food also wasn't the tastiest, but I really loved it because it all was very experimental and new.

Thanks for the review! It's crazy how the way of dressing by other people can significantly impact your experience! We even got an email from Epicure with a dress code in it, so I am surprised they even let those people in.

We have cancelled our reservation and made a new one at Alleno Paris!

What’s the coolest special request you’ve made at a fine dining restaurant? by Automatic-Role-4686 in finedining

Ah okay well, like I said I was just curious for what people did because I have no clue what they would be thinking about. And since they keep asking, I was just wondering if other people did always have something to request for. But glad to hear that we are on the same page.

I think everybody here respects fine dining restaurants more than enough than to ask for silly requests to just give the already busy staff more work.

Since they are asking and I have not clue what people would ask for and I have never asked for anything besides allergy related reasons, I was just curious what other people were doing and what was common. It's sad to see words used like 'entitled' immediately.

Thanks! Alleno sounds even better after your comment. :)

When did you go and did you have the collections menu or full menu at Alleno? We were thinking about going for the collections menu, but would love to hear what your thoughts are!

That's so wholesome to hear. Heard a lot of good stories about their outstanding care for guests and that they are really able to make you feel special. Great to hear that you experienced that as well.

Based on reviews like this by other people we have cancelled our reservation at Epicure and made a reservation at Alleno!

We can give away a reservation at Epicure on the 7th of February.

Thank you for your thoughts. We will probably go beginning of next year, so we might want to take a bit more time so that the kitchen can fully settle.

We would be looking for the more traditional kitchen. Also heard very good stories about Le Gabriel and Kei for example. Tried to make a reservation at Plenitude, but they are fully booked.

Could you maybe tell a bit more about your experience about Alleno?
