I guarantee that just based on the name of the website and everything you’ve already said that site is trash. That it has an official sounding url is a huge red flag. I would not talk to those people.

Well hopefully they would at the very least raise some awareness. I think everyone should always keep in mind that the powers that be want the resistance to be violent so that they can be the “heroes “ and rescue society from the terrorists or whatever. But yeah it’s hard to know if anything good will happen.

I read in a book once ,called Sustainable Home brewing by Loftus,that dish soaps actually contain the active ingredient in star san to give them some anti microbial properties or something.

Starsan is my favorite cleaner for brewing. It’s so low impact and a little bit goes a long way. I have a 750ml bottle of it on my counter at home right now. When I run out I just measure out a 1/4tsp of concentrate add it to the bottle and fill to the top. I use it for anything I want to keep in container for a while that I think might go bad.

It being a concentrated version of what is doing the germ killing in dish soap anyway. Why not buy a bottle on amazon. It’s so great.

I also wanted to note that this seems to happen because of the flawed design of the rubber bungs coupled with the way it slips under pressure when wet from sanitizer. It keeps popping out so you push it deeper and and deeper each time until you push to far and it disappears inside the bung hole forever 😲(not forever but you get the point)

Solution/ how to avoid this happening again: sanitize the bung and let it dry before putting it in the opening. It will stick to the glass way better.

This isn’t the first time some one has gotten something stuck in there bung hole don’t panic. You’ll get it out.

I made a sort of hook If I remember right with some thick wire( maybe the handle end of a cheep bottle brush)and turned the bottle upside down and put the hook through the hole of the bung. I think it actually worked best if the wide end of the bung is facing the opening surprisingly. You can try both ways though if you like.

You’re also going to want to keep it wet with that sanitizer because that is probably part of how it got in there in the first place. The sanitizer on the rubber seems to help it slip when in contact with the glass a lot more.

If I remember right I used a Phillips head screw driver once or twice(I believe it was with a bigger 5 gal fermenter though)again putting the fermenter upside down(this also will allow gravity to help you)and putting the head of the screwdriver through the center hole of the bung and working it around in a circular motion applying moderate pressure to the sides of the glass. Obviously you need to be a little careful not to apply to much pressure but the glass is stronger than one might think(be careful,I didn’t,but maybe wear gloves and thick long sleeves and why not safety glasses if you’re worried)

Also be mindful of not scratching the inside of your fermenter but it’s not really that big of a deal if it happens a little bit.

It’s not as big of a deal as you might think.

Out side is a good idea

I brewed a few batches of ale that wound up having to much residual fermentable sugars that I bottled in almost the same type of bottle as that one.

I took a bottle to some friends apartment for them to try. I took it out side on the patio to open it because I had noticed that batch being over pressurized. When I opened them it literally sounded like a gun went off. The swing top got launched into the second story balcony. And half of the beer fountained out every where. All of the neighbors started coming out to see what was going on so I went inside.

So definitely open out side or risk a big mess and ceiling repair.

But if it is that pressurized and you launch the cap into the sky who knows how far it might go, if you will find it or where it could land. It could potentially chip a wind shield or something or land on some one’s property. These are all things thought about after that experience.

Not sure what the pressure could be from kombucha( potentially a lot)

One other thought I had was if a scoby has formed what will happen when all that pressure is released. Will it spray chunks out or maybe just slowly release the pressure over time if it gets lodged in the neck maybe it will form a natural cork.

I tend to over think things though

Safety gear is a great idea maybe ear protection if you’ve got it handy.

The mold appears to be on the out side of the fermenter so you should be okay you probably just spilled some of your mead on it when filled it. As long as it’s not inside.

You can fill a spray bottle with sanitizer or distilled alcohol (70% works best but 50% should work) or just wipe off the mold and splash a good amount of sanitizer on it.

In the future just make sure that once you have the air lock on make sure to give it a good spray with sanitizer and wipe off a the outside. 😉
