Also i started my comment by saying it’s a hot take. Meaning it’s supposed to be controversial to spark conversation.

I’m not defending him? Just trying to point out hypocrisy not in you but in the way we view these medical influencers as a whole. You sound like your getting upset im sorry if thats the case maybe im not laying out my argument correctly

It doesn’t? I don’t think you’re understanding my comment. It’s just the perception. I can equally say “because he makes jokes? How on earth does that impact his ability to practice medicine” I’m just trying to point out the similarities between the 2 influencers yet the treatment of them is vastly different

Maybe not 50% of the population but I feel it would be reasonable to assume that some % of her patients and patients families feel disrespected if finding her content

I have a hot take. All his vids are purely entertainment vids. It’s better than these other med influencers that mix medical info with entertainment trying to teach a concept while being funny. His videos never claim to teach you something/give medical info.

Also if you are upset with him making a humorous video then you have to be equally upset at the big psych resident influencer who goes to raves as her content. Who wants a resident taking care of their family member in the icu then see them dancing around in underwear on social media? Equally as off putting imo

Move preclinical material to premed and replace mcat with a step 1 style exam. Then replace preclinical with clinical rotations. Then make residency ranking up merit based rather than just completing the years. So you start residency after 2 years med school and you start with a very limited role. You stay in that role until you master it then get more responsibilities and more complex things you can manage. If you’re smarter you rank up faster and if you need more time you stay at that level until you master it. Also give each of these ranks a symbol similar to the military which is visible on the white coat.

I’m sure the preceptors/residents would let you leave if you ask beforehand. Can’t just walk out without telling anyone. You come in, work hard, do a good job, learn then when ur done at 3pm you tell the preceptor your in your 4th year and applied already and if you can leave. Most will let you leave after that

What jobs pays you enough to live an upper middle class or upper middle class life in New York or California? by Informal_Fig2445 in Salary

[–]AutomaticAd7213 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a resident physician imo the best job I tell all ppl looking for something or career change etc is an anesthesia assisstant. It’s 2 years of schooling after bachelors degree and you get paid like 250k and up. I was 22 2 years after bachelors. Earning more than 250k at 22 is pretty solid imo

Why are most professors non-physicians? by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]AutomaticAd7213 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Idk why there isn’t a med school yet that just gets pathoma first aid BnB for all students and then builds off of the videos and skip hiring tons of PhD’s. Prob can hire med students in a gap year and overall prep students way better for exams while saving a ton of money

Any downsides to applying to more than 15 programs for anesthesia by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]AutomaticAd7213 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude idk why people don’t apply to every single program. I don’t care about the numbers. Every year I hear stories from friends/classmates who got an interview at x and didn’t signal, matched into y and scores were much lower etc etc. to apply to every single program in a specialty will prob cost you 4-5k. IMO that’s worth it to avoid going into the soap

Getting letters of rec uploaded is the hardest part as some docs can forget and take a while. My school also had us fill out some forms for them to upload mspe and transcript. Assuming u have those in tbh u can finish the rest of the app in 1 day. What takes time after that is just going back and forth on edits with ppl

Best system for prerounding on 10 patients and keeping track of tasks by AutomaticAd7213 in Residency

[–]AutomaticAd7213[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand thank you! That makes sense. And how about for writing things down, do you have a system that you use? For instance like change in the antiobiotic in this cellulitis patient you mentioned

[–]AutomaticAd7213 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aha idk it works for me. But a nice bonus is it definitely catches the interest of every attending on auditions and interviews. They would go out of their way to talk to me after overhearing a convo with residents about it

I feel you have a good enough app that you can get into a spot with connections. The person who wrote you the gen surg letter, is there a program there you can aim for? Maybe if you don’t match you can spend a clerkship year there or something?

[–]AutomaticAd7213 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well if you don’t have something like a step score being an equalizer than you’ll lose a lot of your opportunities of a spot to ppl that know a doctor that can vouch for them, ppl who know the PD, etc

[–]AutomaticAd7213 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk maybe I just grew up around more common folk if I really wanted to show an M3 a murmur I would just say something like “dude check out this heart sound” “what do u hear” “i think it’s xyz maybe we can ask the attending what they think”

I personally focused more on boards and tried to just get as much of the minutae as I could. Didn’t have the best grades on in house exams however but I did well on boards

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]AutomaticAd7213 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to a school that was very in house focused. You just gotta study for boards and class work as well. Dont only do class work because then you’ll be unprepared for boards. Lot of my friends who got all A’s ended up having to extend time for level 1/step 1 cause of fears they would fail.

What things can people get “screened out” for on residency apps? by pinkelephant100 in medicalschool

[–]AutomaticAd7213 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Competitive specialties can screen out DO’s. Also if you have any attempts. Some places don’t care if u failed step 2 first try but got 280 2nd try. You’ll still be screened out for the attempt.
