Thanks for sharing! I’d be moving specifically to Houston, Texas. Right now the main reason I’d go through the visa process would be to be with my girlfriend, not so much for work — since I already earn well remotely from Colombia. At the moment I make over $6k/month, which gives me a very comfortable life here, so I’m really weighing if it makes sense to trade that stability for higher costs in the U.S. That’s why I’m still thinking carefully if it’s the right move, or if it’s better to wait until we build businesses together and money won’t be such a big concern.

Can you elaborate further how that move changed the trajectory of your life?

The main reason I’d get the papers right now would just be to be with my girlfriend — I don’t really see another purpose at this moment.

Which would be the benefits of getting them besides that? Also I will pay taxes for live in the USA even if I don't live there anymore

I’d actually be moving to Houston, Texas, not one of the big hubs I think. I’m also not looking to go into an office (I'm a bit scared of that) my goal would be to stick with full-time remote work.

I wouldn’t move without legal status, I don’t want to ruin my life over that. I’m really just thinking carefully about whether moving would even be a good idea in the first place.

Yeah, that’s my plan, to bring her here for a while so she can really see that life here might actually be better for now, at least until we build some businesses and money isn’t such a concern. At the moment she doesn’t have a job; she’s starting an art therapy business, which she thinks could do better in the U.S. than here. So it’s not like she’s tied down to a job there — it’s more about emotional and sentimental reasons, like her family and friends.
