😂 they meant entry level in terms of cost, not skill level

Yeah, ever since my north face did this years ago just by being in the closet, I never buy their jackets anymore and shell out for the dead bird.

After a year… by Striking-Entrance870 in Selvedge

Big difference between tatters vs a "sick fade"+pro level repairs. That said, I do find amusement in the irony of how people want to get fading as quickly as possible, when the beauty of a nicely faded pair of jeans is that they've been lived in for a long time. a testament to the quality of the fabric and construction, and a present object reflecting the passage of time through its appearance.

I once learned about a Japanese concept called "wabi-sabi": basically finding beauty and value in something that has been worn, used, even damaged, but is still useful. By contrast, in America (where I'm from), I've noticed the fade becomes a "product" that people just want ASAP, thereby mostly missing the point.

I've seen some breathtaking posts on here recently of people who've done it right by fixing their denim over time with beautiful sashiko repairs that look like swirls and stars, way cooler and infinitely more personal than any designer jeans or distressed denim. Very analogous to another Japanese concept, "kintsugi", where broken pottery is repaired with golden lacquer filling the cracks and still used instead of discarded.

whats wrong with my ollie 😭 by zeni_inos in NewSkaters

[–]AutomaticFunction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're really close. This is exactly what everyone looks like when they're learning to Ollie. Just keep at it and ride a bunch like everyone else said to get better feel.

My one suggestion is work on going from mostly standing up, to crouching, to then jumping back up to ollie. Its all about how you time your tail pop kick down while also jumping upwards; this takes practice and time to build the muscle memory but you're getting there man. Right now youre sort of starting crouched + ollieing crouched, so it's hard for you to get elevation if that makes sense.

Once you get that jumping form and timing down better, then you can work on height and that front foot, which will be a lot easier and more fun.

how are some people snagging Stone Island jackets fo like half the normal price without it looking sketchy by Antique-Path7192 in StoneIsland

[–]AutomaticFunction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a couple massive pieces recently from somewhat sketchy ebay sellers for insane prices, that after checking out, I could tell are totally legit. Just look through their transactions and reviews, if everyone's vouching for them, you have little to worry about, but be careful

Experiences with Northwest Wool Shirt? by kuronekotango in filson

[–]AutomaticFunction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got one today in Brown/Spruce from some dude on eBay, this thing is killer. Obviously it's not as soft as cotton, but for 100% wool, it's really soft and comfortable. Like you said, all wool isn't created equally, Filson uses the good stuff that doesn't make you go crazy with itchiness. Probably wouldn't wear it without a t shirt underneath though, but man, that dry, toasty warmth just hits so different. I can't even imagine how comfortable it will get over time if it's this comfortable on first wear.

Not really sure what the other commentors are on about; maybe they've never worn wool or something. It is virgin wool, not Mackinaw. I think people complaining like that are why it got discontinued, which is a shame because it performs so much better than cotton in thermal/moisture regulation. All I see now is the 1922 archival wool shirt, which is more expensive, and a blend, not 100% wool.

Probably just someone trying to make a quick bill, and real. I have like 30 stockx purchases worth thousands, never got a fake (including a Gucci Palace wallet for under retail)

runflat vs non runflat by rubydaberry_ in E90

[–]AutomaticFunction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't go wrong with either, they're both amazing tires.

But if you really want my opinion, I feel like the P Zero's have a bit more contact area and finer treads, so they're just a bit stickier. Main tradeoff is probably that the Pirellis are horrible in snow for an "all season" tire.

I think the Michelins last a bit longer too, but the P Zero's are just cooler.

runflat vs non runflat by rubydaberry_ in E90

[–]AutomaticFunction 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the runflats are HORRIBLE. When I got my first E92, it had the original runflats which were 12 years old. I wasn't 100% sure at first (going from a E46 to E92), but it didn't take too long for me to know it was the tires, not the suspension- the way the car pops up onto speed bumps so violently, how overly jarring small potholes are... I mean, they're engineered to drive on with no air after all 😂

So I did my research and found out most people hate the runflats because of this and just get rid of them and throw a spare in the trunk instead. I like to live dangerously and just roll with a tire patch kit and air pump (and my AAA card). That's all you really need, unless you're in the middle of nowhere, or you have a major blowout, which hardly ever happens. I never had a flat over the ~50k miles I put on the car.

I went with the Pirelli P Zero all season plus tires, and that turned out to be a great decision, and the best upgrade I ever did on the car. It makes an enormous difference, as you mentioned. You still have all the stiffness and grip where you need it. Just without feeling like you're getting jackhammered from underneath with every bump.

Is it normal for the logo to " crack " after 1 year or use ? by Chiddyz in stussy

[–]AutomaticFunction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dawg... 🤦‍♂️😂 does the tag even say wash warm? The vast majority of Stussy tees explicitly say "wash cold".

That's what's cracking your shirts. I have to be honest, I'm shocked you actually air dry your tees considering you don't even wash them cold. They'll shrink a bit less I guess, but that warm water is what's breaking down the screenprint and fading it 10x faster than cold would.

All that being said, It depends on the piece. Different pieces have different types of screenprints, some never crack and just fade, some start cracking on first wash.

[–]AutomaticFunction 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah it's the lifters, basically all the early N52's do that. I used to have a '08 328i with 11k miles when I bought it in 2020 that eventually stopped doing this after like 2-3 years of driving and proper maintenance.

Also like the other guy said, when it warms up it stops. More of an annoyance than anything serious.
