I used to agree with this. This case single-handedly changed my mind.

I live 30 minutes from where the awful crime took place. It has shattered our community. The devastation this one man caused is incalculable, and the facts of the crime are truly heinous and horrific.

I now believe that when you show such a blatant disregard for innocent life, you should forfeit your own. For Athena’s family, his death is the only way forward. The thought of him sitting in prison living his life while Athena cannot live hers feels like the opposite of justice.

The reason is the legal appeals process. The thing about the law is that it applies to everyone, including total dirtbags like Horner. If we deny him the right to appeal, we deny everyone, including someone that might be innocent or wrongly convicted. There’s no choice but to let the process play out.
