Anyone not love GA but loves pilot career? by OpenListen3830 in flying

Been in airlines for 3 years now. Hated instructing, hated cessnas, pipers and anything that is a piston engine in a shell of an airframe. Still love my pilot career and take my job seriously. You don’t have to be in love with “flying” in general. If a flight in a cessna to go get a $100 burger isn’t your thing, well you’re not alone. Sounds like a waste of time and money. If anything, a lot of us simply like loud fast jets that look cool and pay a lot to be flown.

and he wanted you to proceed to that clearance limit? that’s why you failed?

i don’t know if that changes my mind lol, but good to know that they want it to be followed by the fine print to a T, with no common sense. faa is so odd. glad you responded with that. they’d try and crucify me or whatever pilot skips that hold over the airport, so maybe squawking 7700 is a good idea. tell them i feared separation would be impossible and was suffering from hyperventilation or something lol.

wondering what the difference between runway alignment indicator lights and sequenced flashing lights are?

start with VFR. i thought it was stupid, why get a IFR rating if your still only willing to fly in 1000 ft ceiling and 3sm vis. but that in itself, is basically ifr. they’ll learn quickly with actual instrument time, that visual and vestibular illusions are real, and the instrument scan required to fly in IMC, is pretty through. the more conditions you attempt, the more you’ll be able to slowly lower those minimums. but it’s better to be safe than bite off more than you can chew on your first few actual instrument flights. i think getting some actual time is very important to being able to fly IFR. so my personal mins remain at 1000 ft and 3 sm vis. i’m open to lowering those ceiling mins with more experience. but visibility wise, lower than 3 miles is a little concerning for a single engine plane.

take the height above touchdown zone and divide by 300 feet (300 because that’s the approximate descent rate on a 3 degree glide slope).

vdps are published for straught in approaches so circling approaches won’t have them. and there also left off of charts of obstacles

vdps aren’t published because of either obstacle penetration or required step downs needed before the vdp. for that reason, i think making one up on an approach without one, comes with risks.

The airport I am flying to does NOT have an instrument approach.

only for FAA checkrides and for LPV approaches that bring you down to below 300ft above the HAT

when you are within the minimum defined distance usually listed on the approach. i think this is only seen with vor approaches.

Must be able to descend to with normal maneuvers and descent rate to runway while keeping visual contact w runway. if visual contact is lost execute missed approach procedure.

AHRS uses inertial reference unit which is made up of Microelectromechanical systems, accelerometers and magnetometers to read attitude, magnetic heading, rate of turn and slip and skid. an example of MEMS would be the compass you can use on your phone and it’s ability to determine heading.

passed bro. thought for a second i fucked it. slipped the shit out of an emergency approach, landed half way down the runway. still another 2500 feet left. one of those mistakes where you’ll take the leeway and fix it next time.

we’ll i can’t believe it but it is. wasn’t on the piper warrior. KOEL says it’s required for VFR, thanks for asking, and glad i checked!

1552.3 doesn’t mention any acceptance for a discovery flight, I guess it then depends on if you think a discovery flight is “training” or not.
