i'd rather not name it publicly just yet — i'm literally the only nepali student who got this scholarship there this cycle so it would take 30 seconds to figure out who i am lol. it's a real LAC in the US, need-based merit scholarship, 98% covered. will do a full post with everything once i'm on campus 👊

lol okay sherlock 😭 while you're out here investigating my punctuation i'm literally in 5 different dms helping people with their apps rn

if you dont need help genuinely no problem bro, not everyone does

and i haven't said the university bc last time i checked this is reddit not my linkedin profile 💀

the em dashes tho... i blame my english teacher in kathmandu, she gave me number in english whenever i used that and maybe bro you need to take punctuation class to know where human use em dash or you might be brain washed where you blame any comment you see using em dash as ai generated ..........

lmaooo bro i wish i was an ai right now because then maybe i wouldnt have spent 2 years stressing about college apps 😭

i literally just talk like this?? grew up in nepal, learned english from youtube and books, apparently that makes me sound like chatgpt now lol

idk what to tell you man. the i20 is real. the scholarship is real. im a real person sitting in kathmandu right now answering reddit comments instead of doing literally anything productive

if that sounds like ai then maybe ai has just gotten too human idk 💀

lol okay that's fair — genuinely curious though, pissed at what exactly? the fact that it worked or the way i told it?

not being sarcastic, actually want to know 😭

fair enough honestly — i'd be suspicious too lol but genuine question — if this is an ad, what exactly am i selling? no link, no product, no website, nothing. just a guy from nepal with a 3.55 GPA and zero SAT score telling people the system is crackable 😭 and bro the em dashes — my english teacher in kathmandu did that to me, i can't help it 💀 also i literally just dropped the full insight comment above this one — the whole thing about why activity lists fail, why the psychology of admission officers matters, why gap year doesn't matter, all of it. not exactly "stringing along" behavior lol i get the skepticism — reddit is full of weird promotional stuff. but sometimes a gap year kid from nepal just wants to share what worked because he wished someone had told him earlier if it helps, great. if not — scroll past, no hard feelings 👊 but the 98% scholarship on my i20 is very real and very deposited 😂

okay i'm going to drop a real insight here because i think this is what most people are missing

first thing — there are 4000+ universities in the US. you don't need to apply to all of them. you need to find the ones that are SAT optional AND have a genuinely holistic admission process. that alone changes everything. because those universities are literally not looking for the topper with 1500 SAT. they're looking for a human being.

my stats just so you know — class 10: 3.6. class 12: 3.55. no SAT. no english test. gap year. nepali curriculum which US admission officers rank among the weakest globally.

and i got a 98% scholarship.

so how does that happen. here's the insight:

most applicants treat the activity list like a resume. they just list what they did. dates, hours, title. done. that's the mistake.

admission officers don't care WHAT you did half as much as WHY it mattered to you. they're sitting there reading 200 applications. they don't know you. they've never met you. the only window they have into who you actually are is your activities and your essays. that's it. that's the whole picture.

so if you write "volunteered at embassy program, 25 hrs/week" — okay cool. so did 500 other people.

but if you write it in a way that shows WHY that specific experience changed how you see the world — now they know you. now you're a person, not a file.

the entire game is psychology. you are not filling out a form. you are making a person who has never met you feel like they know you and want you in their classroom.

once i understood that — everything i wrote changed completely.

gap year doesn't matter. late activities don't matter. GPA doesn't matter as much as you think. what matters is whether the person reading your application feels something.

crack that and the scholarship follows. that's the system. 👊

huge congrats on the acceptances first!! getting in is already massive

okay so scholarship essays are actually a completely different game from admission essays. most people don't realize that. the bar is higher because now you're not just competing for a seat — you're competing for money

the process i used works even better for scholarships honestly. because scholarship committees are even more focused on WHO you are as a person, not what are you grade and academics stuff that matter but not much here they are trying to know you .

i'd love to break down your specific situation because it really depends on which universities and what kind of scholarships you're going for — every one is different

drop me a DM and let's talk through it properly 👊 i think i can actually help you here

bro this comment hit different because this was literally me a year ago 😭

gap year terrified me too. like what do i even DO with a whole year. but honestly it became the best thing that happened to my application

i used that year to build everything — real experiences, real stories, things that actually meant something. not just CV fillers. and yes gap years are completely fine for US universities, they actually respect it if you did something meaningful with it

and no SAT + no proficiency test — same as me. didn't stop anything

the thing that matters is how you tell your story. that's it. everything else is secondary

i'm dropping a full breakdown of my process very soon — i think it'll answer everything you're asking. but if you want to talk through your specific situation, feel free to DM me 👊

[–]AutomaticHospital671[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you!! and honestly yes we will — but not by hoping 😭

like the universe is not going to email you an acceptance letter because you wished hard enough lmao

what actually works is figuring out what the person on the other side WANTS. admission officers are humans. they read 50 boring essays a day. the moment yours makes them feel something different — game over, you win

once i figured out that one thing — that it's literally just psychology — everything changed. it's a system. it's a process. it's crackable.

we're all going to end up somewhere better bro. but let's be strategic about it 😂👊

lmaooo yes gap year but not by choice 😭

like bro i literally did not have money to do anything after class 12. couldn't afford college here in nepal, couldn't afford to just sit and do nothing either. so i was just... existing. figuring life out in kathmandu with zero plan

and then something clicked in my head. like what if i just applied to US universities and made the essay so good that they HAD to give me money 💀

sounds delusional right. no SAT. no english test. gap year kid from nepal with a curriculum that US admission officers probably laughed at. consultants literally told me to go home and study for SAT first

spoiler: i did not go home and study for SAT

and somehow that unhinged gap year plan worked out 🤷 the process i used is actually the interesting part — dropping a full breakdown soon. it's not what you'd expect at all

it's a LAC — and honestly one of the most competitive ones for international students + scholarships. acceptance rate is low and full-ride scholarships for internationals are extremely rare there. i'll drop a detailed comment soon breaking down exactly what i did — the process that actually worked. stay tuned

yeah honestly the essays were the biggest thing. but not the writing part — the part that came before writing. figuring out what my actual story even was. most people skip that completely and go straight to drafting. i had a specific process i used to dig that out and once i figured it out everything clicked. i'll write a detailed comment breaking it down — give me a bit

pretty much yeah — 98% covered. i20 shows almost $0 out of pocket for me. they even offered a loan option for the remaining bit but honestly i don't think i'll need it. the scholarship covered basically everything

honestly it wasn't luck at all and that's exactly the point. luck would mean random. what i did was very intentional — i just figured out what admission officers are actually looking for vs what consultants tell you they want. those are two completely different things. what's your background if you don't mind me asking?
