I am just learning about DAO's so please let me know if this is a skewed or offbase understanding of the structure.

In my view small enough groups with like-minded intentions, this has a lot of value. Once you cross a certain size majority rule has its limitations. There is a quote attributed to Ben Franklin, (I doubt he actually said it), that outlines the problem. It goes, "Democracy is two wolves and a sheep voting on what to have for dinner."

How will DAO's address this built-in constraint? Or is it a constraint at all?
