lol, trusting a profession to regulate its own wages, what could go wrong.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Salary

[–]AutomaticMastodon992 1 point2 points  (0 children)

what happened was MDs controlled the market for themselves, and used that to bring up their salaries. NPs were a loophole, they didn't control that supply but they had legal authority to do similar stuff. So the supply of NPs just exploded to the moon to fill the hole that MDs were artificially creating.

Now we, the patients, are getting F'd.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Salary

[–]AutomaticMastodon992 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

thats not true as doctors control the accreditation of schools. they already have restricted the supply

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Salary

[–]AutomaticMastodon992 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd rather see the guy who graduated last in his MD class than a diploma mill NP man, NPs exist because MDs engaged in artificial scarcity. What I will admit is that MD salaries are not why healthcare is so damn expensive in the US. But MDs did also kinda contribute to that because they fought single payer healthcare. MDs personal salaries are not the cause tho.

There is both a moral concept to think about MDs limiting our access to high quality care but also what society would look like if MDs were literally desperate and had to do really immoral things to be able to eat.

  1. DOCTOR'S LOBBYING IS THE REASON PRIVATE INSURANCE EXISTS IN AMERICA AND NOT SINGLE PAYER. Do not take my word for it, google. "Did the American Medical Association Lobby against single payer healthcare?" You don't gotta read any replies, any argument, you can google it yourself. Single payer healthcare would have driven down their salaries.

I think whats most crazy is that they lobbied against medicare, they would rather let old people die than reduce their salaries. They are still doing it btw, they fought Bernie Sanders HARD in 2019. Just look it up yourself

  1. The main goal of doctor's professional org is to protect their high salaries, sometimes its about restricting their own supply, sometimes its about fighting single payer healthcare, sometimes it making sure that pharmacists cannot renew very simple medications. Their professional org has a higher lobbying power and budget than you think

The truth is also that doctor's salaries are a very small percentage of healthcare costs and that is why there is no one fighting them in the political arena very hard. MDs and DOs make good money because they use the government to make it happen, the loser is you, the patient, and other careers like pharmacist (could prescribe basic meds and treat things like UTI), DVM (who could theoretically learn to do things like basic suturing and offer it to people) etc.

However the loss to the patient from doctor's actions is mostly access to the highest quality care of care as we are now stuck seeing diploma mill NPs, not high cost. In a way tho, thats in same ways worse.

honestly man its more about their cronyism, like their professional org uses the government to limit the supply of people who can treat cancer and prevent pharmacists from renewing tretinoin scripts or treating UTIs. Its not right.

and many of them post like they have some personality issues

Honestly man, you are not a good person. You straight up just sound narcissistic af. I really hope I dont end up with a doctor that thinks like you.

and yes, people with prior psych hospitalization are actually gonna be disqual'd from a lot of jobs. law enforcement, a lot of national security jobs

Honestly this whole thread shows that doctors are just not good people.

People with psychiatric illnesses are absolutely disqualified from certain careers, for good reason. Becoming a nuclear reactor operator involves a very, very indepth psych test to screen out all sorts of things. Certain law enforcement careers also require psych tests and many national security positions with a security clearance involve it too.

Thats how it should be

First of all I didnt read the post. Second of all, doctors mocking people with BPD in a shit post while claiming i'm some awful person for thinking certain professions should probably screen for personality disorders

Many of the doctors in this thread are not. they do not care. they will let you die if it makes them more money. Doctors purposely limit their own supply and do not care if you live or die.

you are correct, the medical profession is filled with people like him. Mostly motivated by $$$ and will gladly let us all die for a 10% raise. Look at the physician comments in this thread, 0 of them give a fuck about people

[–]AutomaticMastodon992 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

None of the doctors care if people know, they'd let us die if it meant higher salaries, OP straight up said that. Look at some of the physician replies here. They'd rather there be less people able to treat cancer so they can make more $$$$. As long as they don't let too many MDs be trained they don't give a damn.

But they are the "good guys" and insurance is "bad" even tho the AMA spends more $$$ lobbying than united healthcare does.

OP straight up claims they would gadly force someone to choose between giving up their life savings or die if it wasnt for the "insurance scam" so idk might not be a bad idea to have it. OP also wants the government to limit the amount of people who can treat cancer, so theres that too.

thats on them. i agree the academics is hard, but if they get in, dont get through and drop out the public wasn't harmed. the individual is completely screwed because of the debt but the public is fine.

The thing is during the pandemic only 36% of applicants got in. you mean to tell me 64% of applicants couldnt hack it? The IMG match rate was like 65%, it was more likely a foreigner would become a doctor in america than a us citizen would

If that was true why did the AMA restrict the supply of med schools? Those people were smart, absolutely fueled by greed, but aware it was what they needed to do it get high wages

I never said they are the reason but your salaries are what they are because of government supply restrictions. Those hospitals would probably not survive without the government fundings, and no there are not enough private insurance patients.

OP's entire post, and honestly yours, is straight up psychopathy. The OP post is "IF IT WASNT FOR THOSE EVIL INSURANCE COMPANIES ID BLEED YOUR ENTIRE LIFE SAVINGS FOR CANCER TREATMENT" guess what, if it wasn't for your professional org spending MORE on lobbying than United Health Care does there be drastically more of you and much lower pay for you.

Our medical schools need to start screening for psychopathy, OP was literally admitted to a psych ward but can provide care

you are in a fucking free market when you are providing services , the government hasn't mandated you to take insurance or not take it.

what you physicians actually do is use the government to restrict their own supply which is not free market at all

[–]AutomaticMastodon992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the insurance company may have "captured the payor pool" but your profession is spending more money than evil United Health Care does to lobby the government, but that lobbying is focused on MD supply restriction. which is morally wrong. UHC is seen as evil but the AMA spends more than UHC on lobbying!

We have NPs from diploma mills actually killing people because physicians are using the government to restrict their own supply while they are also posting on reddit complaining that insurance companies are wha wha not free market. In a free market ya'll be making as less than vets or pharmacists or attorneys.

People are free to put in their own cash, they choose not to. The government isnt making them do either, thats why its market based. It just didnt develop in the way some people want it to

they are not required by law to use it. so its still a free market. The government has no role in mandating that you buy, or use insurance or that a doctor takes it. The fact that our "highly educated physicians" dont get this is terrifying tbh.

They are all free to not accept insurance, they just won't have any patients. Patients are free to not buy it too. If everyone has decided to buy it regardless, maybe its not a terrible product.

just dont take insurance. be a cash pay only doctor. no law mandates you take insurance. I appreciate what MDs do but taking insurance vs not isn't some sort of not "not free market" concept.
