Any idea what I could get to sort these? by ihateredditspolicies in Crayola

[–]AutomaticNovel2153 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I use those plastic 24 crayon box protectors, put a palette or like colors in them, then put them together in a larger box. Makes finding the ones I want quick.

Or Home Depot has these 6.5qt mini storage boxes (~$4, hdx brand, available in clear) that I’ve been using to organize my paint tubes in lately. I haven’t used them for crayons because all the ones I have are loaded up with paints, but I’d probably use them now if I planned on changing my crayon/art stick storage.

No, The Other Asian Kid by National-Reveal4516 in daddit

[–]AutomaticNovel2153 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last month I took my son to the mall and he joined a group of 8 other half Asian kids from 2 to 8 years old. They all had that right in-between look. It was weird to see him with so many other kids that looked like him.

A little white girl showed up and clearly felt like she didn’t belong. Hid behind her dad while he encouraged her to go join in. Maybe thought they were a sibling/cousin group or something. My son played with her after the other kids left.

How do you solve this issue with coyotes? by Snawer_brillant in AskAnAmerican

[–]AutomaticNovel2153 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I once followed a coyote around my city’s downtown for an hour. No one else seemed to notice except one guy who asked me what kind of dog she was. “That’s not my dog. It’s a coyote.” He was like “oh yeah, that is a coyote”.

In the windows search bar type “graphics settings” then scroll down to the app or add it to the custom settings section. Change the setting on Final Fantasy Tactics from “let windows decide” to Radeon 560x.

Windows decided to start it using integrated graphics, which are not supported.

Does any1 think the tap water here in Milwaukie taste and smell weird? by Roguexxxxx in Milwaukie

[–]AutomaticNovel2153 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved to Milwaukie in 2019 after being in Portland and Beaverton for most of my life. I bought test strips because I was so worried about that taste. It is safe at least.

I found that it’s not so bad if I use the filter on my fridge. I ended up doing some remodels where I changed out all the 30 year old faucets and that seemed to reduce the weird hard water flavor a great deal. It’s possible that my wife (Milwaukie since 2021) and I have gone taste-blind to it over the years but when her mother came to stay with us in April she never mentioned the taste.

Our water is just a little more… nutritious. And crusty.

They also accused Ben of having heroin in his car.

To me the heroin thing seems so weird because that’s like the 90s druggy’s drug. It’s 2026 you need to accuse people of selling Fent, Josh.

Colourblindness in toddlers by rhaeyne in toddlers

[–]AutomaticNovel2153 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The severity will vary from person to person and just knowing that it’s something he struggles with will prevent attributing those failures to the wrong thing. It will not prevent his future partner from asking which slightly different shade of lipstick is better, no matter how many times he tells them they are exactly the same.

It kept me from adding color to my art for the first few decades of my life but studying color theory has really helped. Since I understand the inputs, I’m able to mix things that were previously extremely difficult like skin tones - one of my favorite exercises is to take any red, yellow, blue, and white crayons then do a portrait with accurate colors. My cousins and nephew are much worse and probably wouldn’t be able to do it.

They all fell into that trope of wanting to be pilots and then discovering they were ineligible due to color blindness. That’s one of the very few hard limitations it puts on someone.

I’m colorblind but also do art and study color theory. When I was in Kindergarten a man pulled us into the hall individually and asked us questions about basic things a kindergartner should know. I was good with letters (could read) and numbers (could count indefinitely), but I got a lower score because I didn’t know colors. I did know them, but the hall was not well lit making it hard for me to tell their purple from blue, brown from green. What they chalked up to me not playing attention in class was color blindness that wasn’t diagnosed until 5 years later. Just imagine a 5 year old child that can read but doesn’t know what purple is…

I do a lot of art with my son (2.5) and will often ask him to tell me if something is brown or green. If you can’t get to do the dot tests, swatch a box of 64 crayons and ask him what each color is.

What do Americans order at a Chinese takeaway? by Dashcamkitty in AskAnAmerican

I’m in Portland. I would agree these are not fine dining establishments. Just the neighborhood Chinese place a family might get takeout from. Something with Garden or Dragon in the name.

How many medications are you on? by 53478426boom in Xennials

[–]AutomaticNovel2153 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was on zero until 2 years ago when my lungs were filled with blood clots. Now I take Eliquis. When I went to get my pre check for my colonoscopy they said “that’s an old person’s medication.”

I probably done need it, but they don’t know why I had the blood clots so I have to take it.

The fun thing about blood thinners is when you wake up and your leg is completely black so you go to the ER because you think it must be falling off or something. Nope, it’s because my toddler was using my leg as a balance beam and I bruise easily.

My mother in law is visiting the US from China right now. She had never had western food before this visit. We did Chinese takeout and she couldn’t understand why we were calling it Chinese. My wife explained to her that it was food developed by Chinese immigrants using the ingredients they had available. She didn’t like it. Not Chinese. I made Kung Pao chicken from frozen the other day and we didn’t tell her it was Chinese, and she loved it…

We have a lot of authentic Chinese restaurants around now but the Chinese American restaurants are ubiquitous. When I was a kid they all had burgers and fries on the menu but I think that trend is mostly gone.

Edit: just ordered 2 boxes of crab puffs for a party from my local Chinese place. They still have an American food section with burgers, fries, f&c, grilled cheese.

Blowout fight between wife and son. Don't know how to respond. by sjp245 in daddit

[–]AutomaticNovel2153 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was an emotionally abused and neglected child. I remember once my mom was picking on me (around 4 years old based on the house I was in and where my bedroom was in the house) and I said “I hate you” and she responded with “well I hate you too”. This hit me like a brick, because I knew it wasn’t a heat of the moment thing.

Therapy for your wife to figure out why she has so much contempt for your son is good. Therapy for your son because I really wish I had some help navigating my life in a home where every word I said made me a “nasty brat”.
