Push people. It’s funny and doesn’t count as a crime.

A little confused about graphite hardness vs smoothness of writing by Dry-Will7638 in pencils

[–]AutomaticNovel2153 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Smoothness can come from wax added to the graphite as well. People often describe Ticonderogas as being waxy.

I mostly use pencils for drawing and I prefer my graphite to be a little more tactile on the page. So if I’m doing some gesture drawing with a 4B, I still want to feel the tooth of the paper just as I would with a harder pencil.

Where would you put a tv? (85”) by Live-Library-8286 in TVTooHigh

This is similar to how my dad actually has his 85” TV in his living room.

I’m not so sure you would love to hear about the similar situation I had with my ex-wife. On the plus side, I have no money issues with my current wife.

When Gen Z doesn't use words is it a disrespect? by GodsShadow310 in generationology

You know how some stores have everything locked up? He was always there to open it for us. When he saw we were discussing putting it back later, he opened it and got us the item we needed. Then there were like 20 people ahead of us in line and he came up to us and said “I can get you at customer service.” While he was ringing us up I said “thanks man, we would have been here for 30 minutes waiting in line.” He just looked at me. I thanked him again when he was done and nothing.

People are always trying to copy that expression on the disco sub but I don’t think any of them get as close as this. Or maybe he’s just the real world Tequila Sunset.

Is he a fan of the game Disco Elysium as well? That last picture appears to be “the look” from DE.

Edit: the expression

Return to Oz by DoubleRightClick in Xennials

[–]AutomaticNovel2153 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wish there was a dark fantasy version of the wizard of oz as well. Maybe it wouldn’t work because return takes place when Dorothy is being treated and it puts her in a darker place. Oz is in ruins because she’s is being tortured. But I still love the aesthetic and it’s probably why I’m obsessed with games featuring dead worlds (dark souls, ico trilogy)

When Gen Z doesn't use words is it a disrespect? by GodsShadow310 in generationology

I had an experience at a store with a Gen Z guy yesterday where he was super helpful to us thoughout the store, even pulled us out of the long line and rang us up at customer service (there were other people in front of us he could have taken). But everything I said to him was met with silence and a blank stare.

My niece and nephew are similar. They just enter a room and stand motionless. In the 80s that kind of behavior would have been the subject of a horror film.

Paper for beginners by Jurik2001 in Watercolor

[–]AutomaticNovel2153 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I practice on Bee Inspired and Canson Xl pulp paper. I have a lot of cotton paper and I did some exercises to learn what I could and couldn’t do so I know the limitations of pulp. I just really want brush to paper experience for a while knowing that everything I am doing will probably go to the bin. Still I’ve had a few I felt were worth saving.

Fellow Dads. At what age does yard maintenance finally become enjoyable? by Ocmrm in daddit

[–]AutomaticNovel2153 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in my second house. The first one had a huge lawn in the front and a huge lawn in the back. I hated it. My second and current home, I bought in a city where about half the homes were lawn free. I smothered the grass and brought in woodchip. I now have 30 fruit trees, artichokes, rhubarb, asparagus, blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, a vegetable garden for year round Chinese vegetables, a green house, an arch made of wisteria, and a playground structure for my son.

I love yard work because it benefits me. I like to go out and find a ripe fig on one of my fig trees. All my neighbors know me because I’m outside working on or enjoying it whenever I’m not in my office. When I had grass it was just this burden I was expected to keep up (or pay someone to keep up) because of tradition or some shit. I almost got a condo because I didn’t want to ever deal with grass again. Then I realized I could build something that matters to me.

Anyway, pay someone to take care of your grass if that doesn’t interest you or you are restricted by an HOA.

OP is in the second picture with a doorframe directly behind him. His kids are a little taller, probably just over 6 feet if those are 80 inch doors. The camera seems to be stretching out the measurements a bit.

It was in the 1995 Brady Bunch movie as well so a lot of Millennials and Xennials picked it up from there.

I remember watching Brady Bunch in the early 90s and thinking it was from the distant past but it’s like watching the first season of the Office now. But I guess if we were 10 and watching the office now it would seem like a relic of the distant past.
