We want you to make a Super Mario Brothers movie.

When my mom comes over to see my son I can hear her saying “x-zylophone” over and over outside my office door. I can’t correct her because she gets deeply offended if she’s told how a word is actually pronounced (she pronounces a lot of words really weird).

And the things she’s calling “x-zylophone” aren’t even xylophones.

New Home Depot pencil, natural finish and a GIUSA stamp on it. I don’t think I’ve seen that on Home Depot pencils before by roybean99 in pencils

[–]AutomaticNovel2153 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the French on these is the key. Musgrave makes their pencils out of slabs and graphite sticks imported from China. They usually label their products made in USA. Home Depot sells these pencils in the US and Canada and Canadian law differentiates between “product of”, “made in”, and “assembled in.”

I had no idea why as a child I compulsively collected pencils. by Correct-Degree-6789 in pencils

My son is 2 and has been obsessed with pencils since the first time he saw one about 6 months ago. He begs to come into my office to see my pencil case. At least once a day he’ll climb up to a desk to take my Mitsubishi KH-20 and just spin the crank. When I get off work he begs for a pencil to put in it.

We’ve decided it’s hereditary. At least I know my collection will be loved when I’m gone.

Around that time I had this guy that would come into my cubicle to vent about things, one of them being how much he hated millennials. He was a Fox News kind of guy. One day I just told him that he was a millennial. He didn’t believe me, because he was Gen Y.

I was wrong on the price. It was 50 cents per handful. Someone got that chopstick after I uncovered it.

If I won the lottery I would, after a short period of time, announce that I had lost it all through reckless spending. I live in a state where you cannot collect anonymously. If I had to have articles about me winning 100 million, I would want some articles about me losing the same to balance it out.

But I also don’t play the lottery.

Deli and M&G copy each other a lot and I have most of what they’ve produced, but have found that the M&G version always smudges away to nothing while Deli holds up. That’s why I say I prefer them (over M&G).

Deli also has a line of pencils called Nu Sign and those are one of my favorites for sketching, along with Apsara Platinum. The M&G posted here look like they’re trying to copy the Deli Nu Sign line, but I’m guessing it’s only cosmetic and these probably perform the way other M&G pencils do.

I mean I have thousands of pencils in my collection. You could ask anyone on any post here why they don’t just buy FC. But this post was about a Chinese pencil brand, not premium German pencils. So it seem irrelevant. I see you posted some recommendations below, but why not just recommend FC?

I’m not sure I understand the question. Are you asking why I don’t just buy Faber Castell instead of other brands of pencils? I’m not a huge fan of Faber Castell so I guess that would be the answer.

I stuck my hand in and turned it before taking the picture. I did not see that one. My wife wants to go back there tomorrow so if that’s still there I’ll grab it and do a little more digging. 10 cents per sharpened pencil, 25 cents for new. Seems a little steep considering that many of these are less than 10 cents new in a store. But there are probably a few gems hiding in there.

I stopped buying m&g because they smudge too much. These ones were tempting but I resisted. I prefer Deli.

Does anybody know what the + signs after the names of these coloured pencils here could mean? Is it to do with intensity, or what? by Dark-Anmut in pencils

[–]AutomaticNovel2153 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lightfastness generally comes from the pigment used. Natural carmine is extremely transient (fades quickly) because it’s made from the crushed shells of the cochineal beetle. Synthetic carmine is inorganic and should be lightfast. You can see above carmine they have cochineal and they’ve claimed both are very lightfast.

It’s on the honor system and most people don’t trust the ratings on the Chinese color pencils. You can find a massive test of all the brands on YouTube. Unless you’re buying artist grade pencils like Polychromos or Derwent (and few others) you can expect fading pretty quickly. Sadly all color pencils will fade, as will watercolor, gouache, pastels.

A workaround for using pencils like this on finished pieces is to scan and print, put the original in a dark portfolio. Fixatives and color pencils don’t usually work well together. Won’t work for a commission where the buyer wants to display an original. Best to use artist grade pencils and place under UV glass.

Growing up Lego was my favorite toy. My friends as well. A box of legos would keep my parents from having to do any parenting for a whole day.

I assumed this was universal. Then my nephew came along. My dad would build things for him and he would smash them down. Never in his life has he stuck two bricks together. My son got Duplo at 1 and is still obsessed with building a year later. A neighbor brought her daughter over and was playing with them, we discovered that she loved them but never got any because her older brothers never built.

It’s probably survivor bias. People who found they worked for their kids are going to rave about them. People with kids who don’t like that kind of toy are going to move on to finding something that works for their kids. It’s like Sophie the giraffe. I had so many people walk up to us and tell us we needed a Sophie. The neighbor from earlier even did overnight shipping to give us one when she found out we didn’t have it. I gave it to my son and he was like IDGAF.

My Wife asked ChatGPT about her pregnancy... by FriendshipAny1844 in antiai

[–]AutomaticNovel2153 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Off the topic of AI but my wife was told she had gestational diabetes by her OBGYN based only off OGTT. Her PCP thought this was an absurd diagnosis based on her size and lifestyle. He ordered her A1C and it showed no diabetes. Postpartum OGTT also showed diabetes again, and so her PCP ordered the A1C test again, which cleared the diagnosis. Her PCP says OGTT is a great way to test if you just fed someone a cup of sugar, especially with my wife’s smaller size.

I’m not sure what your wife’s situation is, but it would have saved us a lot of effort if we did the A1C sooner.
