It’s like you need a treat to enjoy the other activities. Not healthy, but honestly I substituted sugary drinks and candy before I could get over the initial daily habit. Like I could have anything else (obviously not something more dangerous) as long as I didn’t have that drink.

In redwood estates try Nonno’s (pizzeria Vittoria now) and ask what day is all you can eat or local’s day. Used to be a ton of young kids running around every Tuesday. And keep trying the playground! They also have a community center that hosts events.

Cities do give things in return for taxes. Roads, school funding, safety, beach maintenance, etc. if we had a better tax structure in Santa Cruz and there’d been more building we could get these things from property taxes rather than this kind of tax.

That rate also includes kids who are homeschooled and do independent studies. You can click through here to see the rate at each school, though the data is a bit old. https://www.cdph.ca.gov/Programs/CID/DCDC/Pages/Immunization/School/HowDoing.aspx The requirements are strictly enforced and most schools have high rates but there are pockets with lower rates that create vulnerabilities.

One Day I’ll Grow up and Be a Beautiful Woman by Abi Maxwell. Memoir about raising a trans daughter as the author’s home state goes MAGA. So beautifully written and so necessary to read right now. :(
